Default Was it rare in 1970 to have a white painted top

I was checking out the Chevelles on e-bay today and came across this one.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-...item1c133d1ea0

This guy is claiming that the white painted top was an option that was rare, that most people got the vinyl top. It looks like a beautiful car I was just curious.

It is very rare, in fact our friend, Hank's 70 has a white painted top and I like the way it looks. When we were in Flint last year we met a guy that had a 70 nova with painted top as well. That car on ebay is really nice and I would not mind having it as well.

Like Ric said, mine came with a white painted top. My car is a southern car, Hazard, Kentucky. Vinyl tops disintegrated in the sun and headliners fell out due to the heat and humidity. White painted top was a way to help avoid both.

It was a rare option, friend I know said there was something like 200 or so 70 SS's with that option. He's a pretty knowledgeable car guy so it's probably close to that number.

He had his 18,000 mile survivor LS6 at Baker's today. He also has a survivor SS Nova with less miles on it, a 69 SS post sedan and a few other cars. I think he scouts cars for the big money buyer's. He's always checking out anything that looks like it might be original or rare.

Here is our car. Pic is a few years old but other than a few more stone chips that's what it looks like today.

Nice car Hank. I kinda wish that I had seen the paint scheme before I painted mine. Even though it may not have been "correct", I think I would have considered it. Heck, Grumpy might have tried to steer me that way, can't remember.

Well some people don't like it but I'm ok with that, it is what it is. I've been debating for 6 years over putting a black vinyl top on it or leave it as it is. I know it would look with the black vinyl top, I've seen a couple others like that. Been taking car of other things on the car so haven't gotten around to it, maybe never will.
