I had good intentions of more deconstruction today, but ended up mostly helping my father with the LeMans instead.
I did get the cat back out and pulled the driveshaft. I started mocking up the Magnaflow exhaust system off of my 96' Chevy. I figure if I can get it mostly worked out on the wrecked truck, it will make the install easier on my new truck when I swap everything over. (I'll be installing a set of long tube headers when I put the LQ4/80E in the 2001) |
I finished up re-working the TV cabling in the new motorhome. Took out an old VCR and DVD player, added a DVD recorder and wired in a digital TV converter. The DVD recorder is analog so the converter is needed. The 2 TVs in there now are also analog but will be replaced at some point.
|
Finished gutting the interior of my wrecked truck. Separated the wiring for the fog lights from the main harness, what a nightmare. Started to transfer the power seats and console to the 2001. Taking a break now, going to finish up shortly... I'm beat.
|
My "new" truck now has power seats and a center console. :D The original seats were manual, and it had a third seat/flip down console deal. I also swapped in a Denali gauge cluster while I was in there. (Has a transmission temperature gauge and 120 vs. 100 MPH speedometer)
I'll do the rest of the interior at a later date along with the drivetrain swap. Then a paint job, and it's DONE. (I hope) |

That's it? You should have it done tomorrow. :) That's a major rebuild, overhaul, restoration, etc. |
Yeah, and all for a daily driver...
I'm not wealthy, so I was unable to just go out and buy something newer/better. The bitch of it all is, I just swapped in the engine and transmission into my old truck last winter. I barely got to enjoy the fruits of my labor before it was totaled. :( It will be a nice truck when I get everything swapped over and redone. 9000 lb towing capacity and 13 second 1/4 mile capability, can't ask for much more without spending a small fortune. |
Took the plunge and ordered the brake parts for the 05'-07' classic front brake conversion. Better calipers, and larger diameter/thicker rotors. Should help it stop a little better. Next will be SUV rear brakes, same diameter rotor - but thicker and bigger/better calipers.
I want every advantage after that accident. It was an awful feeling not being able to slow down and get the truck under control. I'm going to lower it slightly and install a rear sway bar as well. I've already purchased HD Bilstein shocks for it. |
More deconstruction finally. The engine and transmission is pretty much ready to come out. Finally getting closer to being able to haul off the carcass.
|
Finally had the time and decent enough weather to get the engine and transmission out today. My next "fun" project will be separating and removing the engine/transmission harness. I need it for another project.
|
I gutted the suspension on the 71 Vette yesterday.
Gotta make room for new coilovers! http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...28276EAAF2.jpg |
Been working on the new to us motorhome. Taking the dinette and coach apart to clean the upholstery. The motorhome wasn't abused, everything works and it's in good shape. Just needs a very thorough cleaning. If the guy had kept it clean or cleaned it before selling it he could have got a good 25% then he did. Okay by me, I'm willing to do some cleaning to save a lot of bucks.

I have done nothing car or truck related lately ,just too dang hot and I've been to tired after work anyway .I did manage to visit my 2 trucks briefly at the bodyshop the monday after the 4th as we were limping our daily driver home from vacation to the dealership for repairs.

Separated the engine/transmission harness from the body. Seeing how easy it was to remove, I'm going to swap harnesses, this one is already repinned for my electric fans and 4L80E swap. No sense in undoing and redoing that work. Also got my stereo crossovers out of the truck, kept forgetting about them. And I installed the EGR block off and ported TB onto my intake manifold.
|
Rear differential is out, didn't take long... but with 104* heat index it was brutal. Another step closer to being able to scrap the carcass.
|
I have been so busy. Between David and Jacobs BMX bikes and shows, buying and selling bikes and shipping them, transporting my daughter to and from work and AA meetings, transporting my grand daughter to baseball 4x's a week I have not had a lot of time for anything. Even my car. I have only done a few cruises and maybe taken her out a few times to just drive. I can't wait for the NOCC show. Just to get away from it all.
What happened to your daily driver flash. |
I removed the broken aftermarket radio, ball of wiring, and non working amp yesterday. I figure it will give me a jump start on that part of things.

My left front brake caliper locked up on my drive into work yesterday. It cooled off enough to limp it home after my 8 hour shift. I dove in and did the big brake upgrade today in between rain showers.
Before and after pictures show how much better the new brakes fill my 18" wheels. |
Done nothing on mine as we are still in Ohio at the show ,leaving early in the morning .I did have to change plugs in the Malibu today on the show field as she is still fouling plugs and using a good bit of oil.We are going to limp her home one more time and then dig in to see what I find.
|
Started to do more disassembly, pulled something in my neck/left trap. Then shortly after the rain started.
Not much got done, but upon further inspection... I feel that the bed is fixable. |
Did a complete suspension swap on my 71 Vette. Still tying up loose ends and issues but was able to get it out yesterday morning for our local Caffeine & Octane cruise-in.

Damn, you have been busy ,looks great .
|
Sweet ride. Very nice
|
Amazing!! Very cool Eric. I remember seeing this Vette @ Mo's when you had just purchased it...
|
Very nice Eric. Does it have rack and pinion steering?
|
Sorry, wasn't paying attention. Thanks, it has been a frustrating journey with the C3. Other than the attention the Chevelle gets, I actually enjoy driving the C3 more.
No rack, it has a Borgeson Steering box and Ridetech frame brace. |
I wonder if they have that same upgrade for the 63'-67' cars? My good friend has a 65' Vette Roadster, all upgraded Vette Brakes suspension, but the junk factory power steering set up. We're looking to do a rack, but I'd prefer to retain some sort of box.
I took a load of scrap from my truck and other crap around the shop, 580 lbs to be exact. Fetched me a whopping $29. |

Awesome, thanks Eric.
|
Almost got the truck completely stripped and ready to cut up. I need help getting the bed off.
|
Bed is off, strapped it down to the trailer and used the winch to straighten the left rear corner. It's pretty close after just an hour of messing with it this morning. I'm very happy that I'll be able to save it and put it on my "new" truck.
|
I drove the New 93 Indy Pace truck a little today ,that is a fun truck ,my wife wants to take it away from me.
|
Pulled out the fuel tank, removed the leaf springs, and cut off the rear section of the frame. Looks like rain soon, plus I am hungry. Time to get home, wash up, and watch the rain. Maybe I will get more done tomorrow if the weather allows.
|
It sounds like you are doing all this by yourself? I'd give you a hand if I were down there. Sounds like a cool truck. Can you put some pictures of it on here?
|
Having unseasonably cool weather. Durbango's air don't work. It has sat over a month. So I broke her out to drive. Let her stretch her legs. Won't be long she will be all I am driving. Van's turn to just sit, be taken out on nice non salty snowy days for leg stretching.
|
Grill is on the truck for delivery tracking says. Guess who be watching the door all day LOL.
|
It came last night. I been test fitting and tweaking. I got the center section right now and know how the sides got to be done. I about to mask and paint the center. Sides came painted correctly and the same color I use so that was handy. If there a shade difference zi will repaint them tomorrow after I see what the center looks like dry. But they the exact color of the core support which is the paint I am using now so I betting it all good.
|
Took the 71 Vette to LS fest in Bowling Green and beat on it a little.
Was a good time, but I have a long way to go before I am remotely competitive with some of these top-tier guys. |

I didn't work on my truck at all today. I helped my father with the 72' LeMans instead. It's my folks 44th wedding anniversary today, so we had to quit early. My mother was getting pissed and kept pacing. They are most likely on their way to have lunch now.
