To rebuild or buy new
I figured our TH350 would live behind the new motor, but it seems I'm wrong. Everything I have read about TH350's says they can survive up to HP but it can get really expensive.
Question is it worth rebuilding or going to another trans such as the TH400 or ? Thanks for your input. Dave |
Is this car going to be racing at the track with slicks? or just smoking tires around the neighborhood? Is the trans stock now?
|
The trans is stock with a shift kit. Its going to be on the street and strip, would not mind it performing decent on the autocross track.
|
I would but the budget is a big concern right now.
|
THM350's are tough but I am not pushing horsepower because mine is stock. Let me say that in 254,000 miles and 38 years the transmission has never been rebuilt.
|
If you plan on hitting the strip then go with the turbo 400. You would have too much money into the t350 to make it as strong as a mildly built t400. 400's can be picked up pretty cheap and rebuilds aren't too expensive.

A 400 would be cool cause then I could have our current converter rebuilt and use it.

You'll lose more power spinning a TH400 than you will a TH350. You can definitely find a TH350 that will take the power you guys are making. If you can find a worthy shop, a rebuild and "beef up" are probably the best option.
If I ever have the $ for a transmission, I'm getting an overdrive. Either a 700R4 or a 2004R. Those both have lock-up features, and real nice first gears. The 700R4 requires a shortened driveshaft, but the 2004R doesn't, from what I've read, you only need to move the crossmember a few inches. Either one of them will set you back well over a grand with a converter though. |
I've got a Hughes 6k stall for sale. LOL! not exactly streetable.

Any idea where to shop for a 200R ? Never purchased a new trans before. Thanks

If you looking to buy online I've heard a lot of great things about these guys. Their 2004R has a great warranty too. The 2004R can't handle the horsepower like a 700R, but they are a nice overdrive transmission. http://racetransmissions.com/store/p...roducts_id/185

http://www.jakesperformance.com/ (member of this board "Jake") http://www.200raptor.com/ Grumpy, there has to be a place local to you with all the hot rods up there near the motor city. I'll bet if you called a few transmission shops, you could find someone to build you a big 2004R out of a decent core. I'll bet Jake of Jake's Performance could at least give you a parts list and point you towards a builder. |
Grumpy, give my boy Greg Ducato a call @ Phoenix Transmission. He built my TH400 trans and has a VERY good REPUTATION. The pricing and warrany is hard to beat as well. I do alot of business with him, let him know Brandon with ATK sent you and he will take care of you.
