Think my time is up
Manager scheduled a meeting with me for this afternoon.
Attention: Please clear your schedule to attend this call. If you are at a client site, please call in from a private room to have this discussion. Sounds like the meeting notice sent to a former coworker last fall when she got laid off. Oh well, I knew it was coming, expected it to happen a long time ago. Still you continue to hope you can hang on just a little longer. |
Hank,
I am thinking positive thoughts for you today. |
Nope, Its a notice of pay increase! HAHA
I hope the best for you. |
Meeting was scheduled for 2:30 this afternoon. Dumb ass just re-scheduled it for 5:00. It's like, look asshole, stop playing games, just call me and get it over with.
|
They wouldnt do that on a Monday.

Prayers are with you to keep your job, I know economy is quite rough for a lot but regardless we need to keep our hopes positive to make it through. Hopefully it is for a pay raise like Joe said.

Well it's over. Kind of surprised, Friday is my last day. Since I get paid monthly I'll probably get paid through the end of the month.
It was kind of funny. My manager, whom I have never met and has no clue what I do started by reading a script. I tried to interrupt and say I know what this is about, just move on. Nope, he had to read his script. So that's it, he is going to set up a call to do an exit interview on Friday and give me the details on what I need to to do. 37 plus years and now the ride is over, time to move on. Lynda is all upset even though I've been telling her for a year this was going to happen. I don't like it but I'm not upset or angry or bitter. We've enjoyed a good life and we'll we'll continue to enjoy our life. Things will be different but we'll survive. |
Good luck Hank. Time to think about all the fun stuff that you have been wanting to do. Like come up here and have a couple of beers!
|
Hank, my heart goes out to you and your wife. Since you seem to have been kinda preparing for this, do you have any plans on what you are going to do ? Sounds like Tony has a cold one waiting for you.

37 years ? Gosh what a crappy thing to do to you.
I think the saying is when one door closes, another opens. Really do hope things work out for you guys. Dave |
Hank, sorry to hear this as I hear it all too often these days .Things will work out somehow as they always do .Best of luck to you .
|
Sorry to hear it but now you can do what you really enjoy.
|
Wish you well on your next adventure, sorry to hear about your job. But a new door will open up for you. Good luck

I wish you the best.

Thanks everyone. I'll finish enjoying my time here in Florida. When I get back I'll visit Tony and we'll have a few beers. I haven't seen his latest project yet, need to check it out.
I get 26 weeks severance pay, about 3 weeks unused vacation time plus unemployment. So we should be good through the end of the year. I'll look at our situation then and decide if we should just retire or look for another job. I'll be 59 this June so Social Security is still a few years away. Might be able to get by on pension and 401K until then, maybe a part time job to fill the gab. |
Just think of all the time you now have to cruise.
|
Sorry to hear about this Hank. Good luck to you!!
|
Good luck Hank, sorry to hear it. :(

Well it's official. Had my exit interview/meeting yesterday. That started the 2 week notice period so I get full pay for the next 2 weeks. Then I'll get 26 weeks severance pay. Have to file for unemployment since the severance pay is reduced by the amount of unemployment. Anyway, that will take us through the first week of November. That's not too bad, I'll have full pay for the year except the last 7 or 8 weeks, only unemployment for them.
Spring is here, I get to enjoy the summer and the Chevelle. Maybe take the motorhome to a few places in MI so it won't cost a fortune in gas. It feels strange, I'm not sure how or what I'm supposed to be feeling. Oh well, I'll figure it out eventually. |
Wow. Sorry to hear that you were let go, but basically 38 years at the same job is really great imo. You could get a job really close to home for less money and the extra you save in gas could offset things till November as well. Unemployment up here in Pa. is over $550 a week for dam near 2 years! Factor in no gas for work and thats not bad. Only drawback is any healthcare you may have had. My dad lives near Spring Hill and as a retired millworker makes nice money doing odd jobs for elderly a couple hours a day.
