the back seats that i am going to redo
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_5010.jpg http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_5011.jpg the dizzy http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_5012.jpg http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_5013.jpg and last but not least the Be Cool 7qt rad http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_5015.jpg thats pretty much all for this weekend, next weekend i am going to take out the front seats and clean up the floors and treat it and paint it up on the inside! |
ok so i took most of the day today to take everything out of the chevelle today. all the panels the dash everything out because i wanted to sand an prep everything. So here is what i got so far
some spots of rust but its like surface rust but here is the dash http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_5060.jpg too the seat out and it looked like this http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_5061.jpg went to take the back seat out and i found this!! http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_5062.jpg so i took the wire brush and went to town! it was some of the padding from the seat and it was stuck to what ever kind of paint the guy that owned the car before me used on the floor. while doing that i found some filler on the floor to cover up where the roll cage use to be mounted. so took off the filler it was about 1 inch wide and about 3 inches long but its doesn't need that long of a plate to repair it. So far thats all i found since all i have done is where the back seats should be http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_5063.jpg here is the rear panel of the car |
ok its been a while but i got some goodies last weekend. my short block is all together and going to get painted tomorrow it looks great so far but here are the goodies!

Ray |
thanks man i am working on my deck for the rest of this weekend and most of the week. i am hoping to have the wiring harness inside this week so i can label everything and go from there. but we shall see
|
Looks like your kitchen table is being put to some good use. Love the pictures of the progress. Have you had anymore luck getting the pink paint off. It looked like you had found a method that worked, but was a lot of work.
|
yea dude taking that paint off is going to be a PAIN! but i will keep at it..lol
|
What about a stripping chemical? I've seen it in the Eastwood catalog, airline stripper or aviation stripper...something like that. Ever heard of it?
|
i am not looking to take all of the paint off just that purple and pink i will leave the car yellow for now just don't want all those racing strips and stuff on the car..lol
|
cleaned up the door panels and installed
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_5401.jpg crank pulley cleaned and installed http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_5397.jpg carb installed and dizzy installed http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_5393.jpg |
Looks like it is starting to take shape. Good job.

thanks ray its been a pain but i guess that what happens when you want to learn something new :)

I got some info that may help you out. You can lightly wet sand the graphics with 1000 grit, then step to 1500 or 2000 grit. At that point it will feel like you are rubbing the car with a wet piece of paper. Then you can compound the whole car and throw a coat or 2 of wax on it. If you wet sand the entire car it'll bring back some of the paint shine. You'd be impressed how it will come back with some patience. Just stay away from edges and sharp body lines so you don't sand and/or burn through the paint. I've saved a few paint jobs for under $100. Masking while doing this makes a big difference too. It keeps the compound out of the little spots you can't really get into with the trim and moldings. The little round valve you showed a picture of is the Hold-off valve that was used exclusive to 1969-1970 GM cars. It looks like the previous owner gave you the front brake lines and master/booster combo for an almost complete power brake conversion. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me! I see the car has a manual steering box but the engine came with a power steering pump. Are you going to convert it or are you going to stick with the manual steering? The good news is you could always convert down the road. My car was used as a track car at one point of its life too so I know where you are coming from My trunk floor has a big hole cut in it from the fuel cell that was mounted in the trunk and a bunch of smaller holes for the fuel pumps and battery box and cables. I removed all the non-original stuff already. Looks like a pretty solid car overall! Nice ride!
|
thanks man for now i am going to leave it manual steering and convert it later once i find a power rack. I am going to try to put the power brakes on so i can stop tripping over it..lol. you know my pain with the car being a track car. i was lucky the owner before the own i bought the car from put in a new trunk for me so that was great. but we shall see how this turns out. i would LOVE to see this thing on the road before the summer is over but we shall see :)

after being bored i said let me play around on the chevelle
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...IMG_5535-1.jpg http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...IMG_5536-1.jpg http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...IMG_5537-1.jpg put the wiper trans in place http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_5539.jpg http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...IMG_5540-1.jpg http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...IMG_5541-1.jpg |
ok so since i had a lot of things to do i am finally getting some work on the car
so i went to the truck to clean it up and i noticed some rust so i sanded it down to bare metal http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6267.jpg cleaned up all of the rust and then shot it with some por 15 deluxe like i used on the interior http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6268.jpg then the first coat of the splatter paint http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6269.jpg http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6270.jpg http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6271.jpg second coat of the splatter paint http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6302.jpg and tomorrow as long as its nice out i can open the garage and put the rear bumper on and put the wiring harness in place and finally say my rear is done and close the trunk |
Looking good Shaun. What type of spatter paint did you use in the trunk? If it's the GM stuff it's water soluble. I used the GM spatter paint then used Krylon clear satin over it. The Krylon is water proof in case you get any leaks or maybe a wet cooler in the trunk. If you used a different brand then you may be all set.
|
Looks very nice, I also used a clear coat over the spatter paint to keep it sealed.
|
http://duplicolor.com/products/trunkSpatter/ is what i used. I am going to clear it soon but i am going to let it dry for a few days and then clear it any advice on what to use?
|
spent a hour and a half putting on the rear bumper after getting the rear bracket in the mail :) http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6321.jpg
|
The bumper looks good but there is something else different on the back of your car but Im not sure what it is. Something missing that was there before ,Im going to have to travel back a few pages and see what you did .
|
lol yeah i took off the green letters that said mustang this...lol
|
Thats it ,I knew there was something else on there before just could not remember and didnt get back to look.
|
i got tired of people seeing me working on the car when they walk by and they say nice mustang dude...lol
o and that i put the two subs in the trunk :) |
As long as there is progress that is all that matters. Looks like the subs take up some space in that trunk. It is so cool how big the trunks used to be.
|
so today i had about an hour to kill so i went to the garage to check on my rear end i wanted to find out what i had for sure. so i popped the cover off and here is what i found
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6341.jpg 4.11 gears with a Spool :( but then i found this :) http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...IMG_6324-1.jpg they are axles that can handle over 500ft tq so i think i will be good with these axles when i get the posi rear http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6343.jpg so tomorrow if i can find another hour i will pull out the axle on one side and count the splines on my axle so i can order my new posi rear :) |
Good work my friend. Your car and mine are about in the same condition (minus the pink graphics :drunk:).
I'm in the SLOW process of rewiring my car stem to stern, and my floorboards look like they're on the very verge of needing attention like that. Dangit! All I wanted to do was rewire the thing, but I think you may have given me a little inspiration to do other things as long as it's apart. I really like that intake, too. I've never seen one like that! Can anyone recommend a black dash paint? :) |
lol no problem man! i need more inspiration too to get back to work.... well i need more money...lol
