Project Chevelle

Me and my dad are redoing a 1972 Chevelle malibu for me when I turn 16, almost 15 and have been looking for a muscle car forever and finally found a 72 Chevelle in a field by my house for $400. It had been sitting there since 1985. We got it then stripped it down and we have got the trunk floor, bumper support, inner wheel housings, trunk drop-offs, and the floor pans and are waiting for the quarter panels. It is going to be red with black rally stripes, black interior with red stitching to match the paint. A 1970 front end, with a 454, and a four or five speed. Here are some pictures:

That looks like a big project ahead of you. I think I would check out that frame first since it looks like it might be bent. You need a straight frame before you start to hanging any body panels. Also if you go with 70 front end then you will have to redo the wiring harness on it for the front since 70 is 2 headlights and not 1.

SS Shaun 02-16-2012 11:11 PM

man that is going to be one hell of a project! post lots of pictures!!

StreetChevelle 02-21-2012 07:25 PM

Yeah, we saw the bent frame and we got it fixed, it looked worse then it was. I'll try to post as many pictures as I can, I want to be able to look back and say, "I built that" and show it.

Bdubya 02-21-2012 09:07 PM

Big project, hopefully you can save her!

StreetChevelle 02-21-2012 09:17 PM

Oh, I forgot to put in the original post that we think it was my aunts car when it was new and after that gave it to my dads mom (My grandma) and we don't know what happened to it but it was a 350, bench seat, with saddle interior, and brown exterior. I kinda thought it was funny that it has less miles then my moms 3yr old car, hers has 110,000 and mine has 96,000.

69chevelless 02-21-2012 09:58 PM

Do you know what original colors this one is? You can tell by the cowl tag and maybe it is your grandmas car.

calif454 02-22-2012 01:00 AM

That is going to be more than one hell of a project! It will be great to see the pictures as this rebuild progresses. Nothing better than to see new life given to what was once a great car!

StreetChevelle 02-22-2012 08:13 PM

Yeah 69chevelless, we know what colors this one was and it was the same colors.

fleming23 02-22-2012 08:18 PM

Best of luck to you! Just take it one step at a time and you'll be amazed how fast things come together.

grandsport 02-22-2012 08:28 PM

Wow,good luck! Are you really going to get that dun in a year?

StreetChevelle 02-22-2012 08:53 PM

Thanks, yeah it is coming along a lot fast then I thought it was going to, we just got the quarter panels in today and are gonna start putting the back of the car together either this weekend or next weekend.
Yeah we should have it done in a year, well, the end of next summer is when our "deadline" is. We really don't have that much body work because it is basically all new metal, only thing original is gonna be the driver door, glass, air conditioner, rear bumper support (I think it is part of it, it connects to the bumper support), roof, and the dash. That is basically all the external stuff that is gonna be original.

314Chevelle 03-04-2012 06:06 PM

Good luck to you on your project. It'll be 1 heck of a rebuild but all Chevelles that can be saved deserve it

StreetChevelle 04-02-2012 10:18 PM

Well, we got all the parts we need for the rear end so we can take it off the frame but we still got to weld it in, I will try to get some pictures tomorrow.

shadowgray396 04-02-2012 10:36 PM

Love to see some pictures

StreetChevelle 04-05-2012 10:22 AM

Thanks, Its coming together pretty fast and fairly easily for how much of it is missing and needs replaced on it

flash 04-05-2012 11:03 AM

Wow ,Dont know how I missed this thread but youve already accomplished a lot. Keep the pics coming .

Ms Grumpy 04-05-2012 07:25 PM

Great pics. Looks like you have done a lot of work. And you can't go wrong with a black car, grandsport will agree with me too.

StreetChevelle 05-30-2012 09:24 PM

Haven't posted on here in a while. Been doing other things lately but we got the trunk floor, wheelhouses, floor. rear bumper supports, and most of the quarter panels are welded in and fitted up straight. Haven't got any pictures lately but next time I go out there I will try and get some of what we have done.

Ms Grumpy 05-30-2012 09:50 PM

Please do post some more pics. I am glad that things are going good.

StreetChevelle 05-30-2012 10:18 PM

Yeah, we haven't hit any speed bumps and everything is going great. I'll try and get some pictures up tomorrow.

StreetChevelle 06-14-2012 10:26 AM

Just ordered the hood and front fenders!

Don't jinx yourself. Seems like I hit nothing but speed bumps along the way on my build. Glad to hear all is going well.

Ms Grumpy 06-15-2012 10:01 PM

Speed bumps are mandatory when you are doing a build. I think something would be seriously wrong if everything went to smooth. So look forward to the speed bumps.

StreetChevelle 06-25-2012 10:58 PM

Got a frame with all new bushings, disk brakes, big block springs, and new shocks. We got the car off the frame and the new frame sandblasted and primed waiting for us to finish up the body work so we can put the frame back under it. And we just hit a speed bump, we were measuring everything before welding it in solid and the back bumper panel was a quarter inch off so we had to take it back off and re-adjust it all and weld it back on.

Ms Grumpy 06-25-2012 11:05 PM

I think we need to change your name to speed bump. :)

SS Shaun 06-26-2012 08:20 AM

ouch! good luck with it man

StreetChevelle 07-07-2012 10:42 PM

Well, it turns out it wasn't my aunt's car. We were working on the floor and some papers fell out of the roof and it showed maintenance work and it was owned by somebody else at the same time my aunt had her Chevelle.

StreetChevelle 07-08-2012 02:43 PM

We got the frame, right side upper and lower A-arms, Power steering pump, rear end, and front springs and shocks painted. Here are some pictures. Tell me what you think of the color combo.

SS Shaun 07-08-2012 02:48 PM

is this going to be an issue as far as ownership?

StreetChevelle 07-08-2012 05:25 PM

Between me and my dad?

SS Shaun 07-09-2012 08:46 AM

i thought you said it wasn't your aunts car so i was wondering if you was going to have an issue with ownership due to that

StreetChevelle 07-09-2012 05:34 PM

Oh. We had thought it was hers because hers was the exact same and it was a weird combination of colors and options. It isn't going to cause any problems with ownership.

StreetChevelle 07-20-2012 02:21 PM

Got a bunch of parts off craigslist. Heres all the stuff we got
