Identify a real LS6

I am considering the purchase of a 1970 SS. Origianly an LS5 car, the seller is claiming a real LS6 presently resides in the engine bay. What would the casting numbers be for a real 19970 LS6 or how can I determine what it really is?

Thanks

If someone on this site is an LS6 expert then maybe they should help this guy out.

All I did was ask this guy if he posted it anywhere else first. haha

If it is an LS6 crate motor it will have an XAA suffix stamped on the pad above the timing cover, a real one would have 512 stamped on the block. Also you would need to find out what heads it has on it and intake. I'm no expert on this subject. A lot of 454 motors claimed to be built to the specs of the LS6. You would need more info about the motor to be sure.

I confirmed that the casting number is 3963512 which is a 427/454 COPO block according a website that I fond that lsists all Chevy casting numbers. Anyone know a good inpector / appriaser that knows Chevelles?

Rick Nelson at MuscleCar Restoration and Design is THE authority on LS6 cars. Do yourself a favor and talk to him before you buy anything.
