1964 Chevelle LS1 w/T56 build
Hey gang! I haven't been around much, but I have been enjoying my chevelle very much. The only problem I have is that I want to drive the car more and more and it's still not exactly a street friendly car.
Sooooooooooo I've takin the plunge and decided to go LS this year. ;) I picked up a 5.3 a couple weeks ago. I'm going to toss in a cam and ls6 intake for now and enjoy it. I also found a LS based T-56 transmission in San Diego last weekend so I took the whole family on a 6 hour road trip. We spent the day on the beach and then picked up my new trans and drove home. I will be sure to keep you all updated. Here's a couple pics of the motor I picked and trans I just picked up. =) http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...engine/ls4.jpg And the trans I've been wanting for years! =) http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/chevelle/t-56.jpg |
That is going to make one very nice set up.
It's always nice when you can make a day with the family to pick up parts....it's like a little bribe.
Well plans have changed slightly. After flipping over the 5.3 and checking the casting number on the crank I discovered that it's a 4.8 motor. I re-listed the motor on craigslist and sold it as a 4.8. The good news is that I picked up a 2002 camaro LS1 complete that I will now be dropping into the car. Waving

Ooooo playing to my heart right there I have a 6.0 in my garage and a t56 ready to go in now
I've been busy
Say goodbye to the 383 sbc http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...nd%20383-1.jpg http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...e/DSCF1194.jpg http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...e/DSCF1196.jpg |
And Hello my Darling! LOL
http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...gine/ls1-1.jpg First thing I had to do was strip off the harness, a/c compressor and alternator. http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...1/DSCF1197.jpg I used a set of Dirty Dingo motor mount adapters. http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...go%20mount.jpg And I dropped the motor into place to see what kind of issues I was going to have. http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...1/DSCF1200.jpg The pan was hitting the crossmember on the corners and I could not get it to sit back at the correct angle so I pulled it back out and notched my crossmember and rewelded it. http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...1/DSCF1221.jpg And now she sits in there beautifully with no problems. http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...1/DSCF1223.jpg Next I will be test fitting the T-56 To be continued. =) |
Wow ! You have been quite busy. Sounds like you are happy with the switch.
Yes I can't wait for the completion! 400hp and an average of 20mpg is going to be unbelievable. :D
Like the set up. Going to be one fast car when you are finished.
UPDATE: The 383 is gone. I sold the longblock for 2K. Kind of cheap, but I needed it gone. ;)
I also got the trans tunnel opened up and mounted the transmission for mock up. Tunnel was opened up 4" total to make room for this T56 http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...1/DSCF3028.jpg http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...1/DSCF3029.jpg I've still got some more work to do, but it's getting there. http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...1/DSCF3033.jpg Crossmember worked perfectly without modification. http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...1/DSCF3032.jpg |
Nice work, your set up is looking good.
wow nice work man! i like it! get it done so i can see it and get mine done like that :) only thing is mine will be a 408 lq9 :)
I finished up the tunnel last weekend. Made the very rear removable with rivnuts. This will allow me to pull the cover so the trans can be removed separately from the motor if I need to work on it.
http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...new-tunnel.jpg Tunnel complete http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...unnel-done.jpg This weekend I started off by getting my hydraulic clutch setup working. I bought a bracket off of ebay that mounts the clutch master cylinder and then installed my 1964 clutch pedal. I welded a tab onto the clutch pedal to connect the hydraulic clutch rod to my pedal. http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...1/DSCF3059.jpg http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...1/DSCF3060.jpg http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...1/DSCF3061.jpg http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...1/DSCF3062.jpg |
Got some goodies in the mail and started my fuel system.
http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...uel-supply.jpg Walbro 255 fuel pump mounted behind fuel cell http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...1/fuelpump.jpg Corvette filter/regulator mounted up. Fuel system is now complete http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch.../regulator.jpg Drilled and tapped my water pump for the steam vent. http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...teamvent-2.jpg Drilled and tapped for oil pressure gauge. http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...l-pressure.jpg |
And started working on my harness. Hope to start it next weekend! ;)

wow good job man i am very jealous!

And I love the idea of being able to pull the motor or trans separately. Great Job. |
Looks good ,keep up the fun work .
Looking good, keep sending pictures
Lokar gas pedal and cable showed up at the door.
http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...1/DSCF3070.jpg I love the design of this gas pedal since it utilizes the factory hole and mounting to cover up the old location. Worked like a charm and feels smooth. http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...1/DSCF3072.jpg http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...1/DSCF3073.jpg http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...1/DSCF3074.jpg |
I then had to drill an enormous hole in my newly smoothed firewall for the harness to go through. I thought long and hard about this because I really didn't want to do it, but in the end it's by far the cleanest install I could have done since the computer will be hidden under the dash and console.

It's alive!! Just manifolds on it right now, but it fired right up. I'm taking it to an exhaust shop today to get everything tied in.

Good news ,keep us posted .
Sounds good. You will be driving in no time.
I'm still waiting on my accessory drive kit from holley, but I did manage to trailer it to a near by show this weekend and I took second place in the under construction class!
http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...1/intake-2.jpg |
UPS delivered my Holley accessory kit earlier in the week and I started bolting it all up. This kit is awesome and everything fits together perfectly and looks like factory vette brackets.
http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...-bracket-2.jpg Today I finished up the powering steering swap and got the accessory drive kit completed. These jeep quick ratio steering boxes really change the feel of the car. I love it. http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...ories-done.jpg |
That is looking sweet. Like the set up
Thanks shadow, I took the car for a 30 mile cruise with no problems. This motor feels incredible with the 6 speed behind it. I can roast the tires through 1st,2nd and 3rd gear. LOL
I extended the intake a bit further towards the passenger fender. When I get a box design made up I will stash the filter down in front of the inner fenderwell.
I drove the car to work on Friday! Talk about FUN! I hit the freeway and with the 4.11 rear end and I'm cruising 65mph @ 1400rpm and 70mph @ 1500rpm in 6th gear. Ait intake setup for now. http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/ch...complete-2.jpg |
I ordered a set of corvette fuel rail covers from Jegs and installed them today. They really cleaned up the engine compartment. I'm having a blast with this motor!

Looking good, what brakes do you have? I see no power brake booster.
Thanks shadow, right now I have disc front and drum rear. Still manual brakes. I'm looking for a dual diaphragm 8" booster to install and then they will be power.
man you are moving and grovin! looking good man!
That looks great .
Wow. You have certainly been busy. Looking good.
Thanks everyone. I will be starting on the exterior body work next. ;)
Now the fun begins. lol
How is this project coming along ,we need updates .
Hey Flash, I haven't done much body work yet. I've been having too much fun driving it to all the local shows with all this nice weather. I did pick up a new piece of sheet metal to weld in behind the drivers front fender. The last car show is this weekend so after that I will probably start some body work. ;)
