1966 4 dr Hardtop Grocery Getter

5 Attachment(s)
Hello,
I was looking to get a new grocery getter and this deal fell into my lap and I couldn't pass her up. So she followed me home.:D My husband was out of town so it was the perfect time..LOL My kids think I am nuts but she will ride again Mad Max style.. So meet Hag-A-Rita the ghetto grocery getter. She was born in 1966 and is for the most part for her young age still hot and not all rotted out from rust. Her interior was attacked by age and will need a full blown Joan Rivers face lift:D Her little 383 stroker motor has seen better days but thankfully I stashed a beautiful 327 away for just this purpose..LOL So I gutted her out and took some picture's to post here I will have lots of questions for the Chevelle lovers and there wisdom's..

Thank You
Sheri aka (HAG)

Some more of her beauty before the pressure washing with lots of soap and water. Have boxes of parts and for the most part is all original. We do mostly 4x4 here and rock crawlers so this is a big change for me..lol Maybe I should put a roll cage in it and lift it...NOT

BillsCamino 12-19-2012 04:49 PM

Cool!!! A 4dr hardtop. I like it.
I'm a BIG fan of the 4dr Chevelles. I just sold a '66 300 DeLuxe 4dr Sedan. And owned a '67 4dr Malibu for many years...
Now I've graduated to 5dr wagons. ;)

Welcome HAG (love it !). I really like the look of the front end of a '66. I can't wait to see some more pics as you progress.

You said you mostly do 4x4's. It would be cool to see some of those pics. We talk about all kinds of cars/trucks here. Everyone is welcome !

Love it I will post some as my good friend gets her 67 Chevelle 4 door back this week but they had someone else work on it...I just clipped my claws for this project its been a while for me to get down and dirty...Waving

Oh and that's our 18 year old son's new to him truck a 1972 he has stripped it down and done a frame up and made his own front bumper with the Chevy bow tie in it..He got it in Sept. for his 18th B-day and did the fastest frame off I have seen..LOL That thing was bad...Chevy ROT was bad..

Ms Grumpy 12-19-2012 08:31 PM

We call that "Chevy Rot"....Michigan gold. Some of the vehicles up here in Michigan have so much Michigan Gold, that it is the only thing holding them together. :)

That '72 truck should be catching the attention of flash. He will be commenting on those pics. He has a '72 truck that he is working on too.

flash 12-19-2012 08:51 PM

I am so jealous of that truck it aint in pieces like mine and mine was started over 18 months ago .

Well its funny I just don't do multiple projects that are not getting love and since I am the one who does most of the computer work and interior's and I AM MAMA so it all goes threw me..:ntwrthy: I have controlled chaos and the dogs and cat and 2 roosters help me keep track of them..LOL Its a family affair we all hate to enjoy...And I will show you a picture of my supervisor position right in the Jacuzzi that overlooks the garage..LOL We do just our toys and it seems that we get them done play with them and someone wants them more then us $$$..LOL Tyler love's his new truck and worked his butt off he learned that he does not like body work..LOL I will keep this going but until I find a way to paint in the winter in my small garage (800 sqft) and heat it with out a fire It will be spring until the outside gets done but I can do some on the interior.. Already getting parts in that I know I need the weatherstripping is shot all the way around...

Here is Tyler's front bumper or Mad Max push bar, he made it from scratch and we are very proud of him. Started off as a 2x8 tube while his friends were playing on there XBoxes this is what he was making with his hands..No help from us..Just asked he not burn our garage down:o

WOW! That Chevelle is SOLID!!!! I'd make a new car out of it and drive the wheels off of it.

I think Tiff's new car, (my wife) will be an old car with new stuff. Something like your Chevelle, but with an injected LSx, four wheel disc brakes, p/s, a/c, etc.

Nice work on the truck too. I have the same problem about painting in the winter time too. Check out my thread of my other projects and look at the '66 Ford truck I just built for a customer. You may get a kick out of it.

Keep us posted on both projects ,they both would be welcome in my barn. The door weatherstrip for the truck should be replaced with weatherstrip from a Dodge Dakota truck as its the same size and snaps in place instead of glued like original .His bumper looks great ,he is quite talented .He should check out 67-72chevytrucks as he will find all kinds of good info there if he isnt alreay a member.

The Truck is already done with the weatherstrip complete. Now the Chevelle is needing it..I have only had the Chevelle for 2 weeks and most of the time its been cold and wet so limited work on it...I got the cowl and truck coming in but the doors ones are $$$$ and I want to paint it before I get those things just laying around waiting..LOL:D

A few more projects I had drop in my lap and we fixed and they went to good homes complete and not just rotting in someone yard:D
Sterling Kit Car is my favorite. It went to Las Vegas and then was being shipped to the Philippines.

And our Zombie Patrol Vehicle was destine to a slow death until I talked the guy out of her to res-erect a fun toy and it went to Honduras with a local guy who retired there...

flash 12-20-2012 10:23 PM

I have a Home Depot runner.

Sheri 02-04-2013 03:30 PM

Well we pulled the motor and it wasn't a 383 stroked  But I am OK with that its a 400ci 330817 block 2 bolt main brick so we are just going to build it mild to a little wild and stuff her back in  Now the weather is getting better and the looks of spring are around the corner. I can start getting ready to GET GOING on a build thread. Have a bunch of parts I have been slowly collecting for the interior and the weatherstripping...There is less than a day of body work and a good 2 days of sanding to get her ready for paint. I might have to wait to plant my garden this year want to get this thing on the road NOW..LOL Put 2 new tires up front so we can move her around..What's up with the 14's going out of style I love them.

flash 02-04-2013 06:02 PM

Not just 14's going out of style ,15's are getting hard to come by in some sizes .Keep up the good work.

Ms Grumpy 02-04-2013 07:06 PM

I was a little upset when David talked about putting 17's on my car. But in the long run, the lower profile tires make up for the bigger rims.

Well we finally got the engine done 400ci and needed my husband 350 done to so we did them both...Now it will be getting the love she needs..LOL

Ms Grumpy 03-20-2013 06:09 PM

So now the fun begins.

flash 03-20-2013 07:41 PM

Cant wait to see what happens next .

shadowgray396 03-20-2013 08:38 PM

I agree let the fun begin. Can't wait to see them in.

earthquake68 03-25-2013 08:36 AM

Welcome to the site. I used to build big trucks years ago. Then 38" tires went from $164 per tire to well over $250.

Sheri 02-28-2015 05:00 PM

Well its been a while, had tons of other projects going on including my son getting into off-road racing in Ultra4.. So basically nothing has been done on her and I am just going to sell her to a Chevelle lover, I will post in the for sale section but kinda a sad day for this decision...email me if interested [email protected]
