New Tractor Supply store= junk

I've been anxiously awaiting for the new TS store to open in Davison, a few miles from where I live. The wife and I went there this morning to have a look around. Every stinking thing that I looked at, tools, fittings, hardware. paint, tie-straps, auto parts, steel, and so on is made somewhere other than the USA. China, Thiland, Korea. Pitiful, I tell ya, pitiful.

It really stinks when something like that happens. I know the economy stinks, but I would pay more to buy American parts. I don't care how convenient a store is, I will go out of my way to support the American workers.

Not much is manufactured in the US anymore, plus it seems like no one wants to do manual labor anymore. Seems like most people want to sit behind a desk and text or surf the net. Can't tell how many guys I have at work that can't put there cell phones down all day.

The stores down here have nice gun safes. Good prices too. :)

Today's headlines, about US jobs

Technology is letting businesses cut costs and make humans expendable.

Businesses are cutting costs wherever they can. Outsourcing jobs overseas where operation costs are lower is just one example. However, the proliferation of new technology is changing the landscape of America’s job market. Automation is yet another fast-growing method of cutting costs, as these technological advances become cheaper and easier to implement — replacing jobs previously held by humans

Luddites have been telling us this would happen since the early 1800s... The thing is, someone needs to build and maintain those machines.

While low-paying factory type work might be replaced by machines, higher paying specialized jobs are created, and when machines are doing the work, it no longer makes it cheaper to put the factory in a 3rd world country, halfway around the globe, because the machines cost the same to run here as they do there. (taxes and regulations excluded...)

Bought my wife a Hallmark Valentine's Day card this week.
Flipped it over and right below the $4.95 price was printed "Made in China" ;)

I guess even love is now made there......

I agree, but still takes less people to keep the machines runing, then having factory workers who need benefits

Now thats a scary thought. Of course with the population they have over there, they had love figured out a long time ago.

We're between 2 TSCs, less than 10 miles to either one. Just as you described Tony. Bins with junk tools and a lots of other junk. You can find some items that you can't get in other stores but for the most part, junk.

True, but if it brings manufacturing back here by making it more cost-effective, those jobs will be created elsewhere, and they will be more specialized and higher paying like trucking, logistics, supplies, etc.

If 10 people and a bunch of machines can do the work here instead of 100 people in China, it's still a net gain for US employment...

My wife and I looked in no less than 50 stores for American Made Christmas cards last year. We finally found some at Menards. She bought enough to last for the rest of my life. And I HATE shopping!

earthquake68 02-18-2013 09:49 AM

I try to buy steel that was made here and then I build parts from that. I'm doing my best to make quality American made parts. :D

It IS sad and disappointing to see stores like that. It makes you wonder what will happen in the near future. How about when people forget HOW to make things? How many times have you heard, I don't know how to do that, that's why I have a cell phone. Really? So you can add $21 and $8 to figure out your bill? Or so you can figure 18% for a tip? That's sad. The smarter the planet gets, the dumber the people get. Now THAT'S the sad part.

Tractor Supply seems to be the only stores in our area that are popping up everywhere ,I have walked thru a few but have yet to buy anything .
