My Winter Project
 

Building an M22W one month at a time. Here's my first order. This gives me something to look forward to during those cold dead winter months.

I may invest in an Autogear M23 eventually. My car is in the 3800-4000lb range, add in close to 500 ft/lbs of TQ... I see the potential to destroy the mint M21 in my car.

Yes/no, if you have some really sticky tires, slicks or street slicks yes. Street tires no, they'll just spin like crazy. Not saying you shouldn't go with the M22W or M23. I've beat the daylights out of my M20 and it's still going strong but wouldn't mind an upgrade. Anyway, keep us updated the your project.

Next month i'll be ordering the case, oversized hubs with matching sliders and maybe the small parts kit.

My M20 in the car now is fine i just wanted a nice new box that i can put some power in front of and i wanted the feel of a new tranny.

I hope it has that M22 whine. I love that.

I was planning to nail down my shift points and tune on a set of slicks. I think a few 5000 RPM clutch dumps would kill it. I am intent on getting another 69' SS 396 car, and my current M21 sure would go nice in such a car. (No worries, the 72' isn't going anywhere.)

Ya, that would probably do it.

Had the M21 close ratio in my 74 vette...great trany.!
I dont think i could kill it...will handle big block power no problem.
The trick is to use a stock type clutch...and a scatter shield.

Here's this months order. Oversized hubs with matching sliders, case, iron midplate, pin with locking bolt, sealed bearing, Gaskets, caged cluster bearings and small parts kit.
It's getting fun now.

I almost purchased one when I put my car together. Looking good so far.

UPDATE

Today was the first outing with the new trans and all i can say is Man is it nice. I absolutely love it. It whines real nice too and its tight as can be. Tight like new tight, its awesome.

Gary, I am wondering about the "Z" wide ratio gear set. Is that something I could buy from them and stuff into an existing M20/M21 case? Or is the super case required?

I really want the looks of a factory M20 with the Z series gearing. The car is light, small block, and won't be raced.

I believe it can but i would email Jody's transmissions to find out for sure.
