http://chevelleforum.org/attachment....1&d=1388545848

so what am i missing? besides the arm rest?

BillsCamino 12-31-2013 09:15 PM

Almost looks like a convertible rear seat...

SS Shaun 12-31-2013 09:23 PM

NO PLEASE dont tell me that!!

grandsport 12-31-2013 09:29 PM

A female?.........

BillsCamino 12-31-2013 09:47 PM

Upright portion of rear seat on a convert is narrower than one in a hardtop...need clearance for convert top mechanism.
Ask Flash to measure the width on his '72 ragtop.

BillsCamino 12-31-2013 09:56 PM

But you are getting different opinions to your same inquiry over on TC...

Ken Hayes 12-31-2013 10:53 PM

Is that the original seat that came with the car? If so, then you are missing the plastic filler panels that go on both sides of the rear seat.

Shaun, what year car are you working on?

flash 12-31-2013 11:12 PM

I can measure mine tomorrow .

SS Shaun 01-01-2014 01:20 AM

those seats are out of a 68 hard top we took it out the car the day i got them. i keep hearing about that plastic filler but i am not sure what those are

BillsCamino 01-01-2014 08:03 AM

Check your other thread...pics are posted...
After reading and seeing those pics, I agree with the missing armrest/filler strips.

shadowgray396 01-01-2014 09:25 AM

Rear seat should be 58" I believe. The 69 if I remember correctly did not use a filler panel like 70, the arm rest with the ash tray was mounted to the rear side panel.

What 68 hard top?

Buick and olds used a filler panel and Chevelle did not.

Some info I found

All 68/69 rear seats are not the same for hardtops. Only the ones with Olds or Buick seat covers were the same. If used in a Chevelle and came with either an Olds or a Buick seat cover, that seat is the narrower seat that was really an Olds or Buick application. I understand this may get confusing. 68/69 two door Chevelle had 3 different seats, The Wider Chevelle seat, the narrower Olds/ Buick seat and the convertible seat. To make things a little more complicated

SS Shaun 01-01-2014 03:03 PM

they came out of a 68 chevelle with a 307 in it (not sure if that matters) i was looking around a bit and found that some guys with 69s do have that plastic filler in it. I am going to go check out a friend of mine's 69 tomorrow to see what he has in his

shadowgray396 01-01-2014 04:03 PM

307 should not matter, this is a 69 SS back seat.

Ray had posted this information from an earlier post "rear seat question". Maybe these measurements will help.

This is from your other post earlier

68-69 rear seats are 58",
70-72 coupes are 54.5", 70 to 72 use a filler panel in the back that the ash tray sits in.
68-72 convertibles are 52".

I guess I got vert seats then they come in just over 52 inches I am starting to hate this car again and some of the dishonest people and I was willing to buy new frames but can't find any I give up

flash 01-01-2014 06:07 PM

If they are vert seats you should not have a hard time selling them ,good luck .

I can't tell you how many times I was told the part was for a 70 and it was not. I feel your pain.

Need to make a correction to that. I was told wrong by a friend

Coupes for 70-72 are 52"
Convertibles are 48"

so since i am having no luck with my search for seats i was wondering since i have 70-72 rear seats in mine i wonder if i can use 70-72 arm rest in mine? i see a bunch of arm rest for sale for the 70-72 and i can seem to find one 68-69 rear seats anywhere

flash 01-02-2014 11:09 AM

I dont think they are close enough to work but I may be wrong.

SS Shaun 01-02-2014 11:36 AM

after thinking about it i am going to use this as a blessing. instead of ordering a new package tray i am going to make an arm rest/speaker box and put the speakers in the arm rest instead of cutting my package tray up. I already sent a message to my custom interior buddy to come over and take a look and give me some ideas

Ken Hayes 01-02-2014 01:04 PM

You dont have to cut up the packge tray to install speakers. The speakers mount from underneath. (I just did this to my 70)

If your thinking of using the seats you have and putting the speakers inside the seat side panels/armrests I dont think theres enough room.

Gotta see if you can find the correct rear seats for your car.

Agreed, I have some nice 6x9 speakers in my package tray and you can't see them. I bought a new tray from NAPD and it looks great.

Ken Hayes 01-02-2014 03:08 PM

Thats exactly what I did Ric. Really like the new package tray. I sold my old speakers to John (Flash) and he's putting them in his Wifes car.

Ms Grumpy 01-02-2014 06:03 PM

I did the same in my '72, mounting the speakers under the package tray.

Ray,

I am going to see if I can edit your post in the other thread, just so we have the correct information there. Just wanted to let you know.

shadowgray396 01-02-2014 10:17 PM

I may have a source for a seat for you, I'll let you know. The trick might be getting them there if you are interested.

SS Shaun 01-02-2014 10:42 PM

let me know how much it would be shipped to 18302

shadowgray396 01-05-2014 11:04 PM

If you can find the lower panel and the filler strip in your area for a 70-72. It should not be all that much for the seats you have, Around here it would be about $35
