New members and spam
 

In an effort to decrease the amount of spam that we had been receiving on our site. I have closed open registration. Instead I have made it so that every new member has to have it's IP address verified. I have made more work for myself, but I think that this has helped to stop spammers from joining the site and driving us crazy.

For the new members, I do appologize for the wait, I do try to get to registrations every single day, sometimes twice a day.

If you find any spammers that got by me, please let me know.

You're doing a good job, I haven't seen nearly as much spam as before.

It's been a problem also for other sites. Some are now closing down at night because of it. Thanks for staying on top of it.

Maybe you could get one of these retired guys here in Michigan ( I won't name names at this time) to give you a hand. I can't vouch for them as they are kind of shady bunch.

Am I the only one here in Michigan working? I can't afford to support all of you this year with all the kids college cost so some of you are going to have to pitch in. Please sent checks directly to me or I do take PayPal.

You are right..I'm walking around with holes in my underwear and socks because all the taxes I'm paying and these guys are buying motorhomes and building mansions in Florida so they don't get cold during the winter. What am I doing wrong? Got to get back to work.

Take note that none of them have responded yet as they are still sleeping.

Yeah Ric, I've been retired since 2008. COPD and workin in a dirty shop (grinding dust, welding smoke, cutting oil smoke) just wasnt cuttin it any more.

Now this is a fun thread, you guys make me laugh. Lol

Thanks for all the offers of help, I may take some of you up on it. For the time being, I think I have it under control..lol. I just feel bad for the new members. Some people don't like it if they can't get right into a sight. But lately there has been so many fake IP addresses and they use e-mail addresses like [email protected], you would think that they are legit.

So I need your help. If someone on another site says something about not being able to get on here. Just tell them it is a security measure, for us and them. Most people will understand that we don't just let anyone in. lol

I don't know if it is just that time of the year but the spam bots are out in full force. I just want to remind anyone if they see spam on this site to let me know. I think that I have had a pretty good control over them lately but don't be afraid to report it. Cause no one likes spam.

My wife likes spam lol

We are in the process of implimenting a Spam program that will make my job a lot easier when a new member registers for the site. Instead of waiting for me to verify their information, it will be able to decipher if it is a spammer, bot or actual person. I am very excited about this because it will not only help me but others who help out on our other sites.

Like any program there may be flaws. Please contact me if you suspect a spammer.
