I have the same problems Tony...
|
I can see the pics, the last one was definitely the worst. That dude is scary. Oh wait, I know him, never mind he's cool.
So what you got going on down there Tony?. I assume the pics are from your place in Fl. You still there or back up here? Getting time that we all get together for the afternoon and suck down a few beers. It's not just for breakfast anymore you know. |
I started to put some pictures from my phone on Photobucket, but that site is so aggravating to use, I am going to try Imageur now. It almost seems to work, when I have time I'll try to figure out some more.
The pictures are from Fla, except the last one. My friend of 40 years, Jack Eagan, died. He had a stroke when we were in Fla and just couldn't recover. The picture is in the funeral home, in front of the Urn that I made for his ashes. I've got all the ash trees cut down now that are dead, with the exception of the ones too close to the power lines. Last week, I called the power company, gave them a detailed description of the trees location that are directly in the path or the main power lines that need to be cut down. These are all at the rear of the property. I had to leave for a while so I wasn't here when they got here. When I got back, they had the bucket truck in the front yard and were trimming the live trees. I told them they were in the wrong spot, the trees that are dead were way out back. He says "yeah, that's what the work order says, but we will have to come back with a different work order, because we didn't read the work order". I'm like WTF did you just say? They still haven't been back. We are up here until sometime in October. Still looking for a new place to live out in the sticks. Had the Real-Estate lady come and look at both places here that we are going to sell. I'm having a hell of a time with the incompetent assholes at the Township about doing some property re-configuration here. I have gotten three different answers from three different officials about lot size and set-back rules. Now I have to appear before the Variance Board, all because they gave me wrong information years ago when I did the initial property split. My cataract surgery didn't go as well as expected either. Went last week to Doc and both eyes are inflamed. That's a whole nother story though. Too much to type. The Nova ignition system has been giving me fits. Been working on that for a couple of days. I should have it figured out today. Waiting on a USA made coil. I installed a new ballast resistor yesterday. No good made in Mexico piece of shit started smoking and turned all black within a few minuets of run time. |
You just need to give me that Nova. I have time to sort it out, sounds like you're to busy to do it justice. Good luck with the eyes Tony. One neighbor had it done and said it was great. Another had it done and lot's of swelling in the one eye they did and it lasted quite awhile.

Do I spy a 33'-34' Ford sedan with a hemi? Looks like tape over the plug access holes.

With all the junk that I've posted on here, aren't there any pictures of it? |
There are pics of it on here somewhere. Maybe in an old Autofest thread.
|
Sorry for your lost Sir.

By your sig, do you have an 87 GN? If so, is was originally built about 10 miles from where I live. |
Hey Hank and Tony do either one of you remember how to set dwell and point gap? I bought all the stuff for the Camaro including a dwell meter and if I get in trouble I may need some help. It has been 40 years since I have done it.
The first thing I did to the Chevelle 20 years ago was put a electronic ignition so I did not have to mess with it but the Camaro is too original to do it to. |
Yep. The hard part is crawling into the engine compartment to reach the points and condenser. Give me a call if you get stumped.

Rick, why not do a pertronix or crane cams electronic conversion?
|
2 methods for points. Idle and turn the adjustment. It will start to die out. Go the ther way and it dies out. Put it in the middle.
Or the old use a matchbook cover as a feeler gauge. Plugs are 35 thousands. |
Not that hard. Set the gap on the points with a feeler gauge, that will get you pretty close. Hook up the dwell meter to the ignition coil and start it up. Adjust the dwell the same way you did the gap until you get what you want. You can give me a call as well but Tony only has points ignition so I'm sure he's done it more recently than me. Then again he can't my Nova running so who knows.
|
Wait, Whut? You gotta set the points gap and use some kinda machine thingy on points? Well I'll be damned. That could be what's been wrong with "your" POS Nova all these years?
Here's what happened with the Nova. This all started when the POS stalled last year in Frankenmuth. No fire when it is hot. Checked spark at coil, had none. Bad coil, right? I bought a new Mallory coil, which is now made in China, installed it, car seemed to run fine for a while. Then it stalled again. No fire at coil when hot. Cools off and fires right up. Check voltage to coil positive, have a full 12 volts going to it. Supposed to be around 9.7, so I check the resistor wire, it's putting a full 12 volts into coil. Hummmm, bad resistor wire? Say what the hell, buy a coil that has a built in resistor, car fires right up and seems to run fine. Wrong, gets hot and stalls again after 20 or so miles. Decide to check voltage when running. Shit!!! 16.8 volts feeding coil!! Check voltage at battery, same thing. Change voltage regulator, had a new Lectric Limited AMERICAN made one in stock, bamm! Around 13.8 now going to battery and coil when running, 12.8 when sitting. Go to Advance Auto and buy a 1.75 ballast resistor. Install new "super dupper" Mexican made POS ballast resistor. Start car and POS ballast starts to smoke. Turns the whole thing black. Get mad, jerk POS off car and throw across garage. Call Lectric Limited and order new AMERICAN made 12 volt coil. Go to the only REAL parts store left in a hundred mile radius, Arrow Automotive, buy a 1.75 AMERICAN made ballast resistor. Install new AMERICAN made coil and resistor, check voltage when running. 12.8 going into resistor, 9.7 coming out of resistor. Now have low voltage going to points. Seems to be fine now. Hank, come get this POS before I have to fix something else. The storage fees that you will have to pay are getting pretty high. |
What year Nova ? I had a 66' SS and a 67' - loved those cars.
|
It's a 70. I like the 66-67 too.

Can I get the back story on the clock gag. I am sure it is a loo loo as much as it is mentioned.

Well things were said, lawyers called, personal protection orders issued, and a possible drive-by. Don't get me going about the radio, after 3,000 miles the radio does not work anymore (Either that or the only local AM station went out of business) I'm sure Tony has a different version of the events. Attachment 4178 |
You bet your ass I have a different opinion! When the Camaro, a beautiful, un-restored, absolutely 100% original, (except paint) car left here, the clock worked like a charm. I'm pretty sure the clock that was in the car was traded, by Ric, to a very pretty lady that just happened to have a 72 Camaro that had a non-working clock. I seem to remember something about a "nice rack" that she supposedly had, and was a real looker. The story is told that Ric couldn't get the clock out of the dash fast enough for her. He offered it to her for a "look" at said nice rack. When he sobered up, he realized what he had done. That's when the lawyers got involved. The first "demand" letter from the firm that Ric hired, Dewey, Cheetum, and Howe, wanted me to give him a full refund, 10,000 for pain and suffering, and he was to keep the car. Being the stand-up used car salesman that I am, I did indeed offer him a very nice pocket watch, but he is exaggerating about the Velcro part. My offer as for a tube of Gorilla Glue.
There was no "drive-by" either. I clearly stopped my vehicle to take the shots. Perhaps my level of intoxication would account for the missed shots. And as for the radio, knowing Ric as I do, I would be willing to that he hasn't even checked to see if all the tubes are lighting up. He has a sort of lazy streak going, with his new fancy-assed job and all. |
Well Tony you wouldn't have any issues with me regarding the Nova. I know you've screwed up the ignition to the point that it may not be repairable but I'm willing to accept that. I also don't care about a clock, not sure what all the fuss is about. I carry a cell phone and can check it for the time if needed. I don't think Ric really cares about the clock, he's just looking for a big payday. I have a working relationship with attorney Jeffrey Fieger but would never bring him into this. I don't need the front of my house shot up. So let's work out a deal on the Nova. It's not that I want the Nova all that much, I'm just concerned about you and your health. The stress from trying to keep the Nova running plus your blood feud with Ric could give you another heart attack. If that happened I would feel terrible if I had just sat back and not taken that POS off your hands. Give me a call, I can come and tow it away anytime.
|
Well alrighty then LOL. Now I know.
My car didn't even have hood or fenders on it when I got it so I wasn't expecting anything to work. |
Mine came with hood and fenders but they weren't on it. No inner fenders or radiator core support. Engine out, bumpers and all trim removed. Seats in it but not mounted and dash apart.
I just started putting it back together replacing some stuff as I went. Oh, and my Chevelle didn't even have a clock, working or not. |
Thanks for thinking about my health Hank, unlike your buddy Ric. Could it be that Ric is looking to move into my place here, and with him pushing all the right buttons, he is "helping" me along to that third heart attack?
I dunno about just junking the POS Nova as of now. I've had it out for a couple of "spirited" blasts today and maybe I don't hate it quite as much now. The neighbors might, but not me. |
I can appreciate that Tony, I was just acting as a friend that doesn't want you to get stressed out over it. I can just see that POS crapping out on you again. If that doesn't do you in then when you get so pissed off that you take a baseball bat to it that may. No offense but I do know you a little. Just looking out for you my friend, don't want anything bad to happen to you. Can't believe Doug traded it back to you. I mean really what kind of brother would do that knowing what could happen to you? All good my friend. Next time it takes a shit give me a call and I'll be there to remove that stress from your life.
As far as 'my buddy Ric', well that's between you two. Don't want to take sides in that thing. I do have an anniversary clock on the mantle that may appease Ric. Not sure where you would put it in the Camaro but if it would help fix the situation he's more than welcome to it. It is a family heirloom, but again just trying to help out my friends. |
Well Hank. I can see who my real friend is. Thanks buddy. You got me to thinking about my brother Doug. Since I got the Nova back from him, he has asked me a hundred times if the car is listed in my trust as going to him. He has been bringing me a couple of cartons of smokes every week. I had a stress test scheduled a week or so ago, but he took me to the donut shop and then his truck wouldn't start, so I missed the appointment. I think him and Ric are talking on the phone a couple of times a week. I didn't realize how close the two of them have become. Food for thought, wouldn't you say?
Just wondering how that family heirloom clock would look here in my office? Would you be interested in trading it for the POS Nova? . |
That deal with Doug and Ric does sound a little suspicious. You better pay close attention to that. As far as the clock, I have to think about that Tony, I mean at least I know the clock works, can't say the same for the Nova.
|
Tony...with that story I want some of whatever you are smoking.
Well Doug really does understand the situation I'm in and he said he is willing to do what ever it takes to make me whole again, that is what I call a friend. He said that he will be able to get me the Nomad for all the pain and suffering now that the radio is not working as well but he did not tell me the plan. So if you get a chance in the next month or so can you get power steering installed? Hank, thanks for Geoffery Fiegers number and he said that he maybe able to get the Nova as finders fee for you. Tony, I know you read these early in the morning before breakfast so be sure too add a lot of salt to you eggs and remember Bacon is your friend. So when we all going to get together for some drinks? |
Ric, do you want the CPP power steering unit, or should I look around for a better price? OK, I gotta get back in the kitchen and get that bacon frying up! Kathy says that it's better if I cook the 16 oz package instead of the 12 z one and eat it all. She said that I need to put a little weight back on.
I'm ready for a couple of cold ones anytime. Give me a call. About time you guys shoot up for a minuet. Take a break. |
Only the best on the power steering since you are paying for it.
I will see when Hank has time from being retired to head over for a couple hours. |
I sent some pictures of the POS Nova to a guy that says he interested in buying it. We shall see.
I hope he isn't one of those "clock guys". |
I would just shoot a hole in the clock just so he knows it dont work and tell him one of your close friends did it .
