Motor at last 496.
My motor guy says block is good. Tested for leaks and cracks.
I am calling the bank to raise the spending limit. So I can order the BB-2 Plus top end kit. Heads intake and set of valve covers. He decided I didn't want the cam I said I wanted. He ordered a Boat cam for me. Erson roller cam. It is a 230 238@50 jobber. He says torque off idle. sideways in 4rth like I want no problem. He said if I got the OD it be loping in the 1500 range with the other cam. I am not ever going to race this thing so best go with the brutal low end torque. He da man who am I to complain. We did the old coot thing and shot the bull for hours while i was there. He has tested the block it is good. It is bored and decked. I helped him load it into his honing machine. And that was what he was starting when I left. So things are moving along now. https://i.postimg.cc/rwbmjDtL/20200910-131104.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/BvKvVJxP/20200910-150757.jpg |
Okay todays adventure was pretty much ordering the top end. Took for ever for the bank to let the money go through. Out of my spending habits it seems.
I got the 320cc BB-2 PLUS CNC Ported top end kit. My engine builder sounded real excited I shot the wad. Now the waiting. Brodix is way bogged down and said 8-10 weeks shipping time. I said cool my builder is loaded down to so he be happy get some of the other stuff out of the way. |
Sounds like you're going to have an awesome engine. Enjoy! Guess I didn't need to tell you that
|
Thank you Hank.
His exact words to me when I ask about what rods he was using. To you it is indestructible. |
The motor getting worked on got a fire under my tail. I been on a shopping spree.
I put the sway bar on today. I got the bushings and the end links. I also ordered the rubber brake line parts. Master cylinder. Hold off valve. Proportioning valve. Calipers. One caliper is on back order. The master cylinder came and i put it on today. Whoopie right 2 bolts. I went to the engine builders and we talked I took notes. For the headers I need. I saw marks on the block he has honed it and marked each cylinder. I got a e mail tonight. The Heads are ported and shipped I got a pallet coming tomorrow. It took all day to find out WTF is going on with the brake system. Boy on Team azzhole they talk a swell game but never answer questions. They know it all when they are driving down the price. Ask a question and they don't know nothing. Very vauge answers. Pretend your driving the price down. You would know the stamping on the parts and where they were located. Which was the actual question in 4 threads they never gave a definitive answer in. I finally had to go to the camaro forum to find out what is going on with the brakes. Hold off valve on front line on the master cylinder. and the proportioning valve goes in the rear brake line. Other than that my original set up on brake lines and distribution block. That way wiring is the same on the brake warning light. |
I been doing the brake lines still.
But this is the biggie it arrived. https://i.postimg.cc/Gp3yKTZZ/dbucket.jpg |
Gonna be interesting to see what kind of air cleaner clears your hood with that intake manifold.

I got the shocks and brakes done. It sits level now. I think i mentioned it elsewhere. Gabriel shocks. Load helper front. Coil overs to u and me for the added big block weight. and air for the back with separate air lines. |
Compare it to a stock 163 casting intake, I have one if you need me to get you a height measurement. Then you'll have an idea of how much taller it is.
|
Yes please do that. I got time before my builder is ready to do mine. He has a machine he can trim it if need be.
|
Alrighty then. I am a thinking I be getting a shorter intake. It does seem a little snug.
|
I got the brakes done. I got the shocks on and done.
I took my intake to the engine guru. I was going to get another one. He used to own a 69 chevelle and it got stolen. He knows 2 guys with 68's He said hold on. Let him do some checking he thinks it may work. He likes that intake. Todays adventure was installing a anti-rollover valve in the car. Keep gas from sloshing out if you brake hard or flip er. I spent 350 bucks on the fuel system that is my next adventure. 100 micron filter. Holley black pump. 1/2 inch fuel line. Few odds and ends things to do it. I got relays and fuses for the install. He was trying to sell me the speed shop. Kinda flattered me. He says after talking to him I am as good as he is. He just got the tools. I took my boy with me and he was floored all the machines with keyboards and computer screens. The dyno room. He was just floored. Anyway I am keeping a steady pace now always doing something. |
I think mine is next in line.
I just bought headman long headers. 2 inch primaries. Msd 6al box vac advance billet distributor wires and blaster 2 coil. Still pluggin along. |
Went to the builders for my visit. Seems I am coming up in the rotation. He had a crank but it was the wrong one so he sent it back.
But that means he is starting on it. Second in command there said get the clutch and flywheel ready so it can be balanced with the rotating assembly. |
Just shot the wad. flywheel, dual friction centerforce clutch. lakewood scattersheild. adjustable pivot. clutch arm pilot bearing rubber boot dust sheild. 11 inch set up.
In other news I froze my granolies off and put a radiator in the tahoe this morning. |
I am still dinking around here. I found out my last visit. This guy is basically building a pro stock engine for me. He said bring a head in and we having it flow tested then he gonna adjust the cam to suit the heads. It is a hobby and I am enjoying hanging out at the dyno shop meeting all the professionals in the area.
My van site there a bunch of richard breaths who always talked out the sides of their neck about the 6 I have in my van. Kinda like team azzhole for chevelles. Anyway I digress. I showed him my engine video of the van. Well he was impressed. He said alot of nice things. So I am enjoying the car running or not more and more. |
Okay finally something is going on. I stopped by today and the master was actually working on mine. my rotaing assembly including clutch and flywheel are balanced. Cam bearings were in and freeze plugs after hot tanking when I got there.
https://i.postimg.cc/26VpWPx5/20210331-105524.jpg He painted the block and was putting the main caps on. https://i.postimg.cc/pXNN9c52/20210331-115229.jpg The masters chair where he does assembly. I spend many hours in there shooting the bull with him. https://i.postimg.cc/fRK1rw2L/20210331-120828.jpg The brand spanking new crank. https://i.postimg.cc/FKC8hTQX/20210331-121622.jpg And the dyno with the last motor on it. He gonna call me so I can get a dyno run recorded. https://i.postimg.cc/4xBF1WyH/20210331-120833.jpg Looking like about a month or so it be done now. |
Making progress. Master was working on it today. Cam in fooling with lifter bores.

Engine guy said engine is together he is waiting on the timing cover. My motor got 7 bolts and that is odd. Carb is on the way it is a quick fuel. He is using a vacuum pump for the crankcase. I ordered the gear venders overdrive. I am into the second of 5 week wait on that.
I ordered custom rims so the rear wheels fit. 15x8 5 inch backspace factory looking rallies. New centercaps from OPGI. Rings are custom from wheelvintiques where the rims came from. Rear tires came fronts should be here today tracking says. 275/60/15 rears and 235/70/15 fronts I been wiring relays for all the new things and running the A/C lines. So it is getting closer quicker now. https://i.postimg.cc/Dw6SW153/20210916-141451.jpg |
Everything is on a covid pace now. Overdrive showed up today. I called on the rims and beauty rings. They be dec they said.
Still kicking. I been doing relays and wiring lately. This old heap is getting real close. |
Visited my motor guy. He got the metal and trusses for fixing his shop. The guy actually was supposed to start today.
My motor is donr one last part coming. he said it be at my house wed-thurs. |
motor is done. We just got to bring it here. I got the overdrive on. I got a low profile trans mount. Notched the cross member so reverse clears. Moving along now.

Looks nice.
|
Thank you. Kinda amazed anyone is here anymore.
|
I try to stay current on all chevelle forums

Well the motor is home now. Carb is a 850 doublepumper called a Brawler. https://i.postimg.cc/15mCss4R/20211027-140527.jpg Best pic of the engine at the builders. https://i.postimg.cc/yYLfNtSm/20211027-140549.jpg And one at my house in front of the Chebbie. https://i.postimg.cc/hth2Qs9H/20211027-162525.jpg Maybe in spring I can ruin some tires. |
Motor is in. OMG had to take the brake booster and windsheild wiper motor off to get the valve cover back on. This thing is shoehorned.
I used a low profile trans mount make room for the overdrive so I didn't have to beat the floor into submission. So I notched the cross member for reverse linkage. It went in slick as butter. I still got room left. https://i.postimg.cc/VvwPHbWW/20211028_154449.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/TPhdrmty/20211030_105849.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/GpZCGfBN/20211030_145255.jpg |
I have a hv 2016 intake so the carb fits in the engine compartment. I got the super comp headers coated and milled so they fit. They are on. I work on it everyday just about now. It is coming along. I got the front end lined up now. These things fight caster all the way.
|
Got the clutch flywheel and starter scattersheild trans back in. Fooling with console and wiring for the overdrive right now. It turned over with the key for the first time in 15 years a few days ago.
https://i.postimg.cc/9FZK3mw1/20211209-145352.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/MpYLT9DQ/20211211-093608.jpg |
I got the trans back in permanently. I saw where the marks were and popped it with a hammer. Then repainted the floor. It fit this time with the factory sized mount. I got the wiring for the overdrive done. I wasn't keen on the shifter ball being the switch. I sat in it with the ball in my hand. So I am a playbaby when I drive. the button and wire agravated me. So I am going with the white fatory 4 speed pattern ball. I put the leds for the overdrive and the switch on the console. Next to the seat. Easy access for me and i can see it if i want to. I took off today xmas family stuff you know and so forth.
I did hook everything up and had a multimeter on the soliniod wires. Turned it on and off. spun the speedo sensor with a drill. Red LED turned to Green like it should and 12v to the solinoid leads. https://i.postimg.cc/LXZPHFFz/20211212-103202.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/J0NBk3n0/20211212-124552.jpg Being a boat builder I am corrcting a 60's oversight with cup holders that hold actual cups. Making a insert for the console. Has 2 cup holders easily removed. Using black boat cup holders. Close the lid out of sight out of mind. Or take it out and it is sill factory looking. I made metal braces for everything on the console. 7 screws holding that puppy down it is solid. |
I sanded and painted everything in the accessories system. had it on and discovered the ac compressor wasnt going to fit under the hood. LOL so off it all came. I bought new compressor, water pump, power steering pump, brackets and pulleys. Waiting on all that non sense to arrive.
In the mean time I am fooling with the vacuum pump to the PCV system. Got it mounted in the fender. I been working on other peoples car lately little actual work. |
Boy it is drama putting 3 inch exhaust in. I got one side done. Muffler is tucked up in the place it should be.

Well wiring is done now. So theoretically it should start and run.
I had to order a socket for the trans plug whoever put that in to tight. I got to overdrive full. It needs anti freeze and power steering fluid. I got it on jack stands I am checking bearing preload on that before I fill it. I built that rear end 10 years and 5 rear ends ago. Just be sure. Only part left i am waiting on are the custom backspaced rally rims. New beauty rings and center caps are in the trunk,. I got the cup holders I just have to make the insert for inside the console. Basically I think i am getting insurance and tags on it when I do the rest of my fleet which are due in march. |
Waiting on the remote start button. It is full of all fluids. Hood is down. I know that dont sound like much. But it took several thousand to make that happen. everything was trying to stick through the hood. Carb accessories. It was a zoo.
I ran a truckload of parts to my buddy. He will keep what he wants to sell and scrap the rest. I am making room to move it outside. 15 years of dragging things home to build this thing there isn't room to move it now. I expect it be a while really. It to cold for my blood to move it outside to start and run break it in and set things. I may just burp it tho. Hear it fire done wait till ice is gone. |
LOL I know hurry up. It is winter.
A/C Held a vacuum |
Well it is completely done finally. All fluids are in it. All wiring done. Only thing that hasn't come is the new rims from wheels vintique so the new tires can go on. But it has the ones it has had forever in the mean time.
I am waiting for warm weather to get it outside to start it set timing and let it run 20 minutes to change the oil as per builders instructions. God we dont want wifey saying basement smells like gas comedy routine. https://i.postimg.cc/9QTnKWNq/20220126-182350.jpg |
I broke down and basically bought a front end rack. Caster and camber attaches to the rim. Got the toe in attachment. Swivel plates.
I got the caster camber and toe dialed in. I used to be the lead alignment guy at firestone. It is just alot easier with the right tools. I had it drive-able before. But it is alot better now. I went with slightly neg camber, 2 3/4 positive caster. 3/16 toe. I ordered a cover for it keep the dust off to. I still play with it. Waiting on warm weather to pull it out to break it in. |
Okay It is alive. I fired it up it idled. Revved it twice and shut it off.
I got to go through drama to get it out so i wanted to make sure it would start before I did. Soon outside for the breakin and then oil change after 20 minutes, It sounds like a beast. Not loping thing just a crackly sound. |
Second start no pumping it now it is loping. I couldn't help myself i wanted to show my son.
