So what other hobbies do you guys enjoy?

Just trying to get to know you guys better, and I thought some of us may have some other common interests beyond the chevelles.

For me, the chevelle is my main hobby, but I am also a very avid bicyclist and (although you may not think that if you saw me now after being off from working out after a head on car collision in may). I also am very big into custom wood working and cabinet making and have turned out some amazing pieces out of my crappy little shop. Unfortunately I dont have enough room for all, so my chevelle has too share the shop with the woodworking, so it either sits covered or gets backed out on days when the dust is really flying. I also am an avid shooter, I own lots and lots of diffrent types of firearms from small handguns to assault rifles. I enjoy taking my 8 year old daughter shooting, she recently got her first rifle. I also hunt and fish whenever i can.

When I am done doing all of that I also own my own electrical contracting company :D

I keep a busy plate for sure

So what else occupies your time?

jeff

pat565 12-30-2009 10:14 AM

Drag racing is big here. I like fishing, but that happens once a year or less.
As far as occupying time, lately it's snow removal and trying to stay off the couch, so I can get the car projects closer to being complete! (It's not working to well)

BADCHVL 12-30-2009 10:39 AM

I like to fish and hunt, neither of wich i have much time for. The wife and i like to take the grandkids and ride the SeaDoos,(jet skis).Oh almost forgot, I love riding the velle around with the wife and grandkids, just enjoying the day!

grumpy 12-30-2009 10:48 AM

My 6 kids and wife take most of my free time. What little I have left is for, in no particular order

Hell there ain't much I don't like except my ex wife :D

When not detailing my black car while having a beer,I enjoy working on my yard while having a beer.

We also show dogs, which takes up a lot of time.

grumpy 12-30-2009 11:03 AM

What kind of dogs. A friend of mine shows his Dalmatian.

Derek69SS 12-30-2009 11:34 AM

I have too many addictions... err, hobbies.

The Chevelle is my primary money-pit, and I use it to autocross, drag race, cruise, show, drive it on family vacations, etc.

Now in the "off-season" to get my racing "fix" I'm in an indoor karting league. It's good training to try to learn consistency and concentration in autocross. The league is made up of guys from a local autocross club, so these guys are GOOD drivers, which really challenges me to improve. I've always dominated when I've gone with friends, but I'm roughly mid-pack with these guys.

I'm also into guns, but not really into hunting... I try to get out once a month to run a mag or two through each of my pistols and assault rifles, and blow through a few hundred rounds with the .22s Also shoot clays occasionally, but I suck at it.

I have a 2-yo son named Cale, and my wife is currently pregnant... she's due in April, and we're having another boy.

Shetland Sheepdogs aka Shelties.

Animal69 12-30-2009 12:34 PM

I like to do a lot of woodworking and fishing with the grandkids. I'm collecting parts to build a streetrod and in the planning stages of building a wooden electric launch (that's a boat for you landlubbers).

rak1 12-30-2009 03:49 PM

Being with my wife (Mary), Schwinn Stingray fastbacks (I have three a '69, 70, and a 72 all are five speeds with Stik Shifts!), Leather working/carving, Honda Z50's (I have a 1969 and a 72 for the wife), cooking and bbq, collecting classic redline hot wheels and other toys of my youth, and were just getting into hand guns target practicing, etc.

tunes 12-30-2009 04:20 PM

Besides the Chevelle I have a '47 Chevrolet hot rod that keeps me busy driving all over Missouri and Arkansas. A '53 Chevy pickup was just added to my list of toys. I have a pretty good collection of '50s and '60 music and the last couple of years I've been collecting movies. I think I need help with theses addictions. :D

madspaniard 12-30-2009 04:27 PM

Besides my Chevelle, I play Roller Hockey, have a Sport bike, and enjoy paintball, and playing in Illustrator on my mac. Stuff I don't do often enough includes RC truck and car, Dirt bikes and drag racing.

DougA 12-30-2009 04:43 PM

Hobbies

Let's see,what keeps me the busiest? 2 year old grandson,El Camino,Chevelle,2 year old grandson,antique tractors,esp. diesels,2 year old grandson,drag racing,tractor pulling,did I mention I have a 2 year old grandson that keeps me busy?:D

Hank70SS 12-30-2009 08:36 PM

Mostly the Chevelle and friends now. We use to have a cottage off Lake Huron so we did a lot of fishing and boating, ya even ice fishing. I was asked to relocate to SC, said ok and signed all the paperwork. Put the cottage up for sale and the company said, never mind, stay in MI. We completed the sale of the cottage and used some of the money to buy the Chevelle. I have a 19' Chaparral boat sitting in the yard that hasn't been used in years.

Still kinda po'd about that deal but it's ok. I have a Chevelle now and I've made a lot of great friends because of that.

Although it is not my career anymore, I am a chef by trade. I guess that since I don't work in the food industry anymore, it is a hobby. I love to cook all kinds of food. Otherwise, I am hanging with my sons...10 and 4, we like to go fishing.

66SSFan 12-30-2009 09:21 PM

New guy here, I spend most of my time racing hydroplanes. I just raced in Doha Qatar last month for the series first overseas race! This was my first year as Crew Chief for an Unlimited gas turbine powered hydro. I have been building the engines for a few years now and really enjoy that part of it the most.

Chevelle_Nut 12-30-2009 10:15 PM

I like to play with computers and my home network, I am a geek with a server rack in the basement. I also like to play with my daily drivers as well as the 3 Chevelles. My favorite thing to do is to spend time with my wife and 2 kids.

I have taken quite an interest in cooking over the last few years myself Jake, there really is a sense of relaxation to be found in it for me. I dont do fancy foods, I do meaty comfort foods, but I shock everyone with what I turn out around here. :)

Cool. Did you work in Vegas? I ran a smallish (compared to Vegas) Hotel/Casino kitchen serving multiple venues, for a few years.

No not in Vegas but in Reno at J. A. Nugget from 1978 to 1983 (Rooster Room, Steakhouse) and at the Peppermill from 1984 to 1988.

johnnys1977 12-31-2009 12:23 PM

Arguing with my wife(Jeannie) is my #1 hobby, followed by the ElCamino (on the back burner because of health issues right now) then building Model cars and semi trucks! (just really stated back up after about a 7 years hiatus)

I've got this model sitting next to my desk right now Johnny, brand new never opened, the plastic is still on the box

http://cgi.ebay.com/1975-Ertl-1%2F25...28171001r27087

I found it in my parents basement after mom passed away, along with about 50 or 60 other brand new models. I think this is the only semi though

http://cgi.ebay.com/AMT-629-Internat...item53deec3c4a Here's the conventional model of the Transtar.Bought one of these new in 1977,not the model the real truck. Was even the same color scheme as this.Had a NTC-350 Cummins small cam,RTO-12513 trans, and lousy IHC RA-355 rear ends.Just a hair over $40k back then.Drove that truck over a million miles, stretched the 200" wheelbase 35" and added SQHD Rockwells with air-ride.In 1986 I removed the drivetrain and built a new IHC Black 4300 glider, with a 72" raised roof sleeper.Drove that one another 900k and sold the truck.Bought my current truck,1995 IHC 9300 Eagle,Viper Red, 72" raised roof with a Cummins N-14 525,15 Spd overdrive, with N-400 40k rears.Don't drive much anymore, truck only has 570k on it,barely broken in.Doing my books for the year, only ran 11,700 miles in 09.Probably drive the Chevelle and Elky more than that.:)

Hey Jeff,
I am also interested in woodworking/cabinet making.
I have lots of tools dedicated to that, but find little time or space to really get going on projects. Have a few unfinished pieces to work on before new projects can be started. (I hate staining and finishing). post up some pics, they will be appreciated.

Also used to really be into custom paint and airbrushing but have not done that for quite a few years. I have two paint guns and one new airbrush that I have never even used yet.

Interested in: mountain bikes, cameras, digital graphics / design.
Have more interests than I have time or money for.

Let me figure out how to work my scanner and I will show a kitchen and bar I built for a former employer. Im the same as you, hate staining/ finishing . My grandpa was a master woodworker, we used to have a store nearby that was called unfinished projects or something like that, it was all raw wood products that people would buy and finish themselves in a color that matched there needs. My grandpa did very well in that store selling his unfinished stuff, he didnt like finishing either. His big thing was building beautiful and elegant grandfather clocks

I would love to build a clock in the future. I want to design a modern or contemporary version of a grandfather clock. Maybe a Frank Lloyd Wright inspired piece. Look forward to your photos.

If my Chevelles and the Chevelle club dont take up most of my free time. I enjoy the hobby of model railroading. No, not model trains. Model trains are toys, not that I have a problem with that but its a seperate area of the hobby. I am a scale model railroader.

Seeb 01-01-2010 09:51 AM

I'm surprised it isn't higher yet! Maybe because everyone is Christmased out!
Love the big truck models! That is a great kit too! They tend to get pretty pricey for the OOP kits!
I owned a 1:1 like that for about a year trying to go Owner Operator in the 70's!

Thats not mine on Ebay, just one I found of the exact same thing is all. I expected it to be higher priced on ebay as well.

When I am not racing (none now until I get a new project) or helping my brother restore his 50 GMC PU, I am on my pc.
I own and run a website, plus visit six or seven.
And then I spend time helping Red Cross.
I have put a lot of miles in delivering blood and chilled plasma to hospitals and med centers all over Idaho.
I am single and prefer it that way.
Oh and the rest of the time from what some folks tell me I am a worthless asshole, but not the people that really know me. :)

Doesn't sound worthless to me. Thanks for volunteering to help others.
