anyone have a spool rear?
ok i am asking because i dont know if i want to change my rear end or not. a buddy of mine told me to just drive with my rear end the way it is. My rear end was built for racing so i have 4.11 gears with a spool rear. should i change it or leave it alone? i was thinking 4.11 gears is really high for a 4 speed trans and i also thought that a spool is not good for street drivablity. what do you guys think?

I'm running 4.10 gears with a powerglide and a 31" tall tire and it is geared too low for a daily driver, but would be perfect if I ever go to an overdrive transmission. I'm running a spool as well and it is rough on the tires if your putting a good amount of miles on the car.
How many miles do you put on the car each month? |
I ran a Moser spool in my '70...went with it after tearing up three sets of Eaton clutches.
To be honest, I fought the idea of a spool but once it was in I changed my opinion. Actually did better on the street than I had anticipated. |
not really planning to drive the car TOO much but want to drive the car on like friday nights and some weekends. i am not planning on racing the car at all which is why i have my rx7 with the ls1 in it. this is going to be my cruise around car and hang out with my kid and my wife. what conditions did you drive the car that you went and had 3 eaton clutches installed?

For a strictly street application, you want a posi...NOT a spool.
I burned thru clutch packs while running slicks screaming for mercy while being driven by 800 ft lbs of TQ. |
yea thats what i thought! i guess i will be saving my money for a posi rear end then :(
