Numbers Matching?

Hi, I just bought a 1969 Chevelle SS396. Everything original is in the car except the motor. I have a guy that says he has the original motor to this car. What am I looking at on the motor that says it went to this particular car? Is it a vin tag? Where on the motor is this identification located?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Rich

your looking for a motor produced within 2 months of the rest... same size engine etc... heads...

other may have a better definition.... but i hear numbers matching it means engine/trans/rear to me...

Verifing block # to Car

Thanks for the response towards my question. What I am really after is how to tell by the numbers on the block will match the cars VIN or Trim tag. I have a 90% complete original 1969 Chevelle SS 396 325 HP with air L code Kansas City car paint code 71, with all of the original parchment interior minus the original engine that I just purchased and has been sitting since 1984. I was told of the whereabouts of the original engine to this car and spoke with the individual who has it. I am going to do a concours restoration on this car and would like to know how to verify that this engine is the one the car was born with. The numbers that were given to me from the machined landing on the block are T1025J0 and 19J145089. Any help would be much appreciated. Rich

Compare those to the VIN tag on the dash. You'll know right away if it is a match.

My 69 has the VIN stamped on the motor pad as well and it matched the VIN of the car.

Rich, is 145089 stamped at the end of you dash's VIN plate?

If it is, then this is your cars original engine.
