72 Chevelle Malibu Wheels Question
 

This is my first time posting,

I have a 72 Malibu Chevelle all original that I wanted to change the wheels and tires on. They came stock with 14 inch wheels and I am planning on staying with this size, but wanted to go to a wider tire.

235/70r14 Goodyear or Cooper Tires are what I am looking at, my current rims are not wide enough to support these tires...here is my rookie question...

What amount of "setback" (assuming any is needed) is needed on the 14X7 rim I want to buy so that the tires don't extend out of the wheel well or rub on the inside?

Is a 14X7 wheel the right width for this size tire?
I have attached a picture for the look I am going for on my Malibu (someday mine will look just like this sweet ride:banana:)

Nice car, I like the colors. I had 335 70 14 on my car before but I switched to the 335 60 14 for a wider look. I don't really like the skinny tire look but I like the same all around.

IMO I think the heavy chevy wheels look better than the ralleys.

If you end up needing the center caps and beauty rings, contact me, I might be willing to let mine go. They have been packed away for a while now and I don't think that I will ever go back because I really like the look of my tires and rims.

Do you have the rallys as well?

A 7" rim should have 4 1/4" or 4 3/8" back spacing. That's what the originals were, depending on which wheel you're talking about. Anywhere from 4" to 4.5" will be fine, there's plenty of room for wider rims and tires. 14x7 is correct for a 235/70x14 tire. If you want a wider tire a 245/60x14 fits the 14x7 rim nicely too.

Hey Ric, that 2nd pic with the engine on the stand. Is that from when I told you, you had to pull the engine to change the oil and you fell for it?

You mean I don't?

I will have to check. To be honest, I think I let my brother take them and they may still be at his shop.
