New here 71 street machine

Hello all,

My name is John and I am building a 72 chevelle according to the registration but the decoded Vin says it's a 71 strange. From my Vin investigation along with the plate decoding it started life as lime green with green interior. The interior is black now. But either way I am far from a purist and more of chop cut hot rodder. I am in the workings right now of getting into production of making it as much carbon fiber as I can and making it a mean road hugging machine.

Well it started as my father's car but more a father son project. He was more a purist. So it currently has a bench seat with column shifter SS hood and badging that was on the vehicle when he purchased it. No luck on build sheet. :( But hey its new life life is gonna be custom racing style with some comfy features.

I am far from rich and have a 2 year old son so it's a slow build that I drive as much as I can. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/01/20/hunytupu.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/01/20/9aje7eme.jpg

I sold my motorcycle that I was building as a street/track bike and put a set of afr 195 eliminators on the block which is 355 mystery cam small block with shorty headers running out 2.5 dual flow masters only cause we had side pipes for little bit. A rpm air gap manifold forged pistons running 9.5:1. My trans is a 700r4 I just rebuilt I will explain that one later. Full manual reverse pattern w engine braking. Out back a 8.5 10 bolt non posi w some real high way gears they are on the good bye list.

Welcome, I think I would get the car registered correctly before you get to involved with it. Could be a big problem done the road. It has a 72 front nose clip on it. Check the Vin and the trim tag for the year and make sure they match.

Easy to make a '71 look like a '72. Only need to change the grill, headlight bezels, and front turn signal lens & bezels.
What are the first 7 digits of the VIN?
Also...rearend most likely a 8.2" ring gear.

Welcome John. Interesting on the VIN/registration mismatch, let us know what you find out.

Interesting but the rear has the 8.5 ears so to say on the bottom I think the car was originally manufactured in 71 and was sold in 72 as a new model I have not done a Vin history on it yet the first 7 are 16371B. All the numbers match from the registration to the Vin plate and body tag nothing fishy just wierd

Car is a 71 by the vin, the 72 front end was put on by someone else who decided to change it. Like Bill said it would not take much to make it look like a 72.

I get that, that is why I might do a dmv registration history on it. If it was sold in NY then I can find out what year it was sold. Because the registration has the matching Vin and says it's a 72 I believe the magic happened at the dealer years ago.

What does the title say on it for year. I can't believe this car has gone all this time with the wrong year on the registration on it. Something is fishy. A dealer would not change the year of a car on the paperwork if they want to stay in business. What do the rivets look like on the vin tag? Maybe a picture of them.

Welcome John from another John.

No title just a transferable registration and I will see about getting a picture tomorrow
