Oil on spark plug threads
Hey everyone,
Yesterday I changed the plugs in my Chevelle and there was oil on all 8, but only on the threads. Car seems to run fine, I do notice what I think is steam (not smoke) coming from the passenger side exhaust. I don't drive the car enough to be able to say if it burns oil or not. I'm stumped!!! What would cause oil to be just on the threads, and no where else? Opinions please!!!!!! |
Anyone????

Rich... I know my 2 cycle engines have oil on the threads but not sure on the car. I would say you have a little oil getting past the rings or valves but it is weird that all cylinders plugs are wet.

Do your plugs have metal washers on them?

Oil on the spark plug threads is classic leaking valve covers, only it`s leaking so lightly you can't tell. What's the only oil source above the spark plugs.

The more I think about this it has to be from when the rebuild was done. Maybe they put some anti seize on the plug threads. If it was my valve cover gaskets there would be oil all over the place. And the fact that it was on all plugs, that would be too much of a coincidence
