? about radiator (truck not Chevelle )
 

What would cause my radiator hoses to suck in on my truck ,stock crate 350 ,everything new ,all hoses ,water pump and thermostat and just replaced radiator cap ? It ran hot on me saturday on the way to a cruise in and I limped it back home after cooling it down and refilling with 50/50 mix of coolant and water .

If the hose collapsed after it cooled down. It is a bad even tho it is new radiator cap.Or the hose to the overflow tank is blocked/collapsing.
When running it pushes fluid into the radiator overflow when it is hot and fluid expands. When it cools it should draw the liquid back into the radiator from the overflow.

So check to see if the overflow tube is unobstructed, that area on the radiator to. If that checks out the cap isnt allowing reverse flow.
But at least you know your cooling system is tight as a drum and not leaking.

chevymaher ,you were right . The bodyshop installed a new overflow tank with new hose (these trucks did not originally have a recovery tank) and when they installed it they must have not known you have to drill the hole in the bottom of the tank nipple for it to work. It now works .

I still have to find out why it runs hot with the Vintage Air on .

My van has a hopped up engine. It does that with the air on. Electric fan and a bigger aluminum racing radiator. Solved everything but 100-110 degrees driving like a madman on the freeway. Then straight into stop and go traffic it comes up. Used to peg. Now it barely above half on the gauge.
Running the air introduces heat into the radiator. Condenser on a air conditioner gets hot.

Removing the shroud brought the temp on the freeway down. A full point on the gauge.
Electric fan made the air work at idle sitting and kept it from overheating when sitting idling with the air on.
It was fairly straight at that point. Then I got the radiator.

Not drawing enough air through the radiator Electric fan or standard fan? If it's getting hot now it will really be a problem in a lot warmer weather. How many row radiator do you have and if your truck is an automatic do you have a separate transmission cooler ?

Truck is an automatic and has a standard fan (not a clutch) ,probably a 3 core radiator (stock), and no external trans cooler .
