68 Chevelle , column to floor shifter conversion
HI folks: I am planning my conversion from column shift auto(TH350) to a floor shifter and console. I have purchased a 67-69 Impala shifter and console. I know it's different but I think I can modify it to work. MY question is...since the neutral switch and backup light is actuated from the column, do I leave that linkage intact, so it will move as I move the floor shifter which uses a cable. I would think it would be a strain on the cable. I know I need to remove the column shifter arm, but is that all I should remove ?

It is up to you how good a job you want to do. I removed the shift arms hump with a grinder and did bodywork so you couldnt tell it was a column shift.
The nuetral switch and reverse lights. Again up to you. They will work by turning the column Or add switches on the shifter. |
Thanks Chevymaher.....I'll go with the console switch and wiring for the neutral and backup light switches, and wiring. It's available and not too expensive. I'll also grind off the column shift arm bump and remove that little spring. Then a bit of body work on the hole as you said.
