Where to buy short block
 

News was not good on our block..

Need to purchase a 355 short block. I found this one at Jegs, http://www.jegs.com/i/Blueprint+Engi...P3554/10002/-1 summit has the same brand. I never heard of these guys. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks

Come on guys I really need your help on this one. You have been great on helping with alot of our other questions.

You can get some pretty good deals thru GM on crate motors .

With the pistons that are installed, I would pass. Even if you had 76cc heads, the compression ratio would be almost 10.4:1, which is pushing it on premium pump gas/aluminum heads.

What is the combustion chamber size on your heads? Are they cast iron or aluminum? What cam are you going to run? More info needed.

They are Dart Pro1 72cc aluminum heads. Going with the 294 hr comp cam.

We would like to use as much of this as possible

Those heads are great and I'm glad you're going with a roller cam, especially with today's low zinc oil. The problem with already having the heads and cam is that just buying an off the shelf shortblock, you may end up with mismatched parts and a poor engine combination.

I would contact a local engine builder and have them build an engine with the right combination of parts that meets your goal with the engine. I have had good luck with Kinectic Racing in Westland.

If having a shortblock built is going to cost big bucks to match your heads, you have other options.

72cc is not a common chamber volume. You could likely have them milled to use a shortblock with flat-tops (maybe cheaper pistons) , and wind up around 9.5 or 9.7 to 1.

There is a chance your cam may not be re-useable here right?

Do you guys know if you need a new bottom end yet?

Do you know what happened yet?

We have Brandon from ATK engines in the greater DFW here, as I believe "Notalent" . . . maybe he could tighten you guys up with something.

Just throwing out ideas, nobody mentioned that one yet.

The lifter bores are worn out and cylinders not much better. Its going to be scraped.

The cam, rockers, springs, manifold and heads have 2 miles on them and will be reused.

I wanted to stroke it but then the cam cannot be reused.

Don't know all that much about motors but I think a 355 short block with .270 dome pistons should work nice.
