This was my 4th NOCC show and this was the first time that my car made it there and home on it's own power. Yes, that is right, no problems on the drive to and from the show.
But..... we arrived on Thursday afternoon and parked the car. We wanted to find out what kind of gas mileage I was getting with the EFI, considering this was the first time that there was not trans problem or break down problem. So it was decided that I would get up on Friday morning, fill her up so we could determine how much gas I used and then take her down the road about a mile and get her washed.
I was up and on the road by 7 am. Filled her up and then headed to the car wash. Looked down at my gauges and I'll be damned the temp was rising, and rising and I was getting mad. I made it to the car wash and the temp was at about 230. I figured that I would wash the car and then start her up and see what she was going to do. Took my time washing her and drying her off. Got in and started her up. And guess what, the minute I pulled out to head back to the hotel, the temp started rising again. Knowing I didn't have far to go, I turned the heat on full blast and the temp started to slowly drop. By the time I turned into the hotel parking lot it was at about 160.
I pulled into my parking spot, turned the heat off, and let it run for about 15 minutes and the temp was fine. I don't know if the thermostat was stuck, or if I had some sort of vapor lock, but she seemed fine. Then on Saturday they have everyone start their cars and rev their engines, so I did. Except we let her run and plugged in the computer for the EFI. We were thinking that maybe my car was running a little lean and that was causing the heat issue. Nope, everything was fine, the numbers looked good.
So Sunday morning we headed out at 10am. We usually make a stop or two on the way home, not this time. We straight home. No problems. It may not seem like a big deal to some, but to me this was huge ! It may have only been just under a 3 hour drive, but that is the longest that I have driven the car since having the transmission rebuilt last September.
Oh yeah, we figured out that I am probably getting about 14 1/4 miles per gallon with about 500hp and a 373 gear. I can live with that.
