I would be checking the fuel pump rod that is in the engine. See if it is freely moving in and out. If it sticks in the bore it isn't pumping.
Pulling the tank and checking the rubber hoses for cracks, suckin air. Looking in the tank for contaminates. Gum parafin is what old 60's gas had that clogged the tanks. Check the fuel lines for rust. Also for possibly suckin air.
I would sure take anything before the pump apart and be inspecting it all. Take the fuel filter apart and see if there is rust or shavings in it. Anything that would destroy the diaphragm or make the check valve stick open.
