Default 454 horsepower

Ok, So as some of you know.. I recently picked up a 71 Chevelle SS. The guy I purchased it from installed a new/rebuilt 454 engine. It has the turbo 400 trans and 12 bolt in the rear.

I havent been able to take this on the road yet, but what do you think a ballpak (horsepower) figure would be for a car like this w/this type of engine.

Thanks!

That's impossible to answer without knowing what was done to it. What heads, compression ratio, cam, intake? A reasonable build, not using all truck 454 parts I would think in the 450-500 range. That's just a wild ass guess though, could be a lot less or a lot more. If it's a decent engine builder it really shouldn't be less than that, more likely more.

The suffix code on the right side of the block/head deck tells alot ... gotta remember the 454 was pretty much a truck motor unless it was made to go fast .... what you got.
