I would like to either use a heat shield or wrap for my starter. I thought I'd see what others use/prefer and get good results from. Seems like the wraps would do the trick.

What engine and starter John? Stock starter should have a heat shield. I wouldn't recommend a wrap, if the starter does get hot the wrap will keep it hot. Not sure, just my thoughts.

I have a stainless steel heat shield on my Nova, which has a big block in it. I bought it from Modern Chevrolet. They have lots of genuine GM parts. It works good. I also say no to the wrap.

I am thinking you have headers, if so - mini starter. Still having isuues even with a mini starter, ford-style remote solenoid.

I use a mini starter with aluminum heat shield.

Mini Starter Headers I in part agree with wrap-seems like you would initially shield it, but eventually you'd hold the heat in. OPG has some shields I've noticed. |

Try a remote solenoid. I had a car years ago that gave me issues, a remote solenoid did the trick.

I am going to attempt to use a shield first and see if that does the trick. Moroso sells one for mini style starters

Which reminded me to ask another question, starter removal on a small block- if indeed I do replace it at some point, the mini starters-will they fit around the headers (removal and install) or will the header have to be remove (as I suspect)?

A mini starter should slide right in. I was able to install one without removing the exhaust on my 91' Z28. (Much tighter engine bay than a Chevelle)
