I'm going to look at a 1968 Chevelle Concours, well that is what he has it listed as. It is a 1968 Chevelle Concours 2 door coupe. I can't find much on these cars, is there an option on the trim tag or V.I.N. etc. any help would be nice.

The 2 dr Concours seems to be a mystery car. The VIN is same as Malibu so that won't tell you. I found somewhere that the trim tag may have 178, a Buick code. Some of the interior pieces seem to come from either Buicks or Oldmobile. Here is a link with some pictures of what you should look for. Like split front bench seat with armrest. Carpet on bottom of door panels. Also Concours tags, not Chevelle or Malibu, inside and out.
Take some pics for us. http://www.hubgarage.com/mygarage/68...vehicles/57912 |

A Concours will have a 13735 or 13835 chassis number on the Trim Tag.

Aren't those 4 dr Concours wagons? He's talking about a 2 dr coupe. It looks like anything ending with a 5 is a 4 door wagon.

From the looks of the car, it has the carpeted lower door panels, rear seat correct to Concours but the front has been changed to bucket seats. All the exterior moldings and emblems have been removed and are not available. So not sure if i should get it and try to return it to a Concours or just build it to a nice Chevelle, or skip this one and keep searching for something unique. Gonna do a little more research to see what parts are available.

Well a little more info, he has all the molding and emblems just lacking the correct front seat. He even has the original motor he will throw in, now this car needs a complete resto but for $4500 I may just have to do it.

If he has all the correct moldings and trim it sounds like a may be a true concours. Maybe you can find the correct front seat out of a Buick of Olds.

I am trying to locate what might be the correct front seat and this appears to be the closest, but the seller is not sure.

While in my searches for the differences in the Concours I received this in an email from a gentleman about the details. So I thought I would share.
THE FOLLOWING CHARACTERISTICS CONSTITUTE A 1968 CHEVELLE CONCOURS 2-DOOR SPORT COUPE: INTERIOR: 1) Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme or Buick Skylark Deluxe 50/50 split bench seat with fold down center arm rest, black vinyl only, pattern matching back seat, with the Oldsmobile interior being much more prevalent in the Concours. Trim Tags: Buick bench(765-158, 765-118, 765-168), & possible Buick buckets(766-178), Oldsmobile bench(765-980, 760-910), & possibly Oldsmobile buckets(766-970) 2) Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme or Buick Skylark Deluxe matching front and rear interior door panels, black vinyl only, the front door panels have matching black deluxe carpet on the lower one third of the panel, again the Oldsmobile door panels being much more prevalent in the Concours 3) full rear seat arm rests, with smoothed(not ribbed) ash trays, black vinyl only, convertible style(goes to the floor), this makes the back seat approximately 8 inches narrower(4 in. per side) than the standard Chevelle, Malibu, and SS396 4) extra long (20 inch) deluxe front arm rests, black in color, shared with the ‘68 Impala and '68 Buick Skylark Deluxe, also includes the extra long chrome ribbed backing plates, these parts are approximately 25 percent longer than the standard Chevelle, Malibu, and SS396 GM part# 5) deluxe extra thick black carpet with rubber heel/toe pad, and heavy-duty jute(padding), which was used for sound deadening purposes 6) a 6-bow deluxe headliner, the standard Chevelle, Malibu, and SS396 had 5-bow headliners 7) deluxe seatbelts(RPO ZK3-27), including front shoulder harness and storage hardware, belts were black in color, brush-finished stainless steel pushbutton buckles and hardware, the standard Chevelle, Malibu, and SS396 mostly had plastic buckles 8) deluxe steering wheel(RPO N30-8) with special emblem on the horn shroud, it is square shaped, black and tan in color, emblem has a Fleur de Lis symbol, which sort of looks like the New Orleans Saints logo 9) simulated wood grain “Concours” emblem located above the glove box, GM part #3922830 10) interior front door panel emblem located and centered above front arm rest pads, 106mm x 25mm, 4-door only, GM part #774365 EXTERIOR: 1) wheel opening mouldings, only Concours in 1968 had these, the standard Chevelle, Malibu, SS396, 300 Deluxe, 300 post cars, el Camino, 4-doors, and Station Wagons, did not come from the factory with wheel house mouldings, ONLY THE CONCOURS HAD THEM, they are shorter than all reproductions and have a “matte” black stripe running down the center GM part #’s: driver left front………………#3928435 (group #8.132) passenger right front…………#3928436 “ “ passenger right rear…………..#7795053(group #12.116) driver left rear………………..#7795054 “ “ 2) all six side body “rocker” mouldings had a matte black accent stripe in the upper groove of the mouldings, this was to match the stripe on the wheelhouse mouldings (Malibu and SS396 did not have this black accent, also minus the rear quarter pieces just like the Malibu’s deletion of this part, SS396 had eight mouldings) 3) “Concours” emblems on both front side fenders(standard Chevelle had “Chevelle”, some had no badging, Malibu’s had “Malibu”, while the SS396 had no badging) GM part#3917461 4) “Concours” emblem on front header panel, very very rare(the standard Chevelle, Malibu, SS396, and most Concours had “Chevelle”) GM part #3917461 5) “Concours by CHEVROLET” emblem on the rear trunk deck, very, very rare, was seen on a few very late production model Concours and was possibly a 1969 Concours part(the standard Chevelle, Malibu, SS396, and most Concours had “Chevelle”) GM part #7732349 6) auxiliary lighting option(RPO ZJ9-1) included: ashtray light, glove compartment light, instrument panel courtesy lights, under-hood light, and luggage compartment (trunk)light 7) rear panel moulding, this wide (approx. 4 in.) cast metal(not aluminum or stainless steel) finned moulding goes the length of the rear tail panel between the rear tail light bezels, the inner “ribs” are painted matte black and white to match the tail light bezels, this is the RAREST AND MOST PRIZED PART FOUND ON A CONCOURS more than likely a 4-door part, GM part#7795094 (group #12.182) 8) special center coin button(emblem) in the 14-inch stainless steel hubcaps or deluxe wheel covers, black background with two rectangles and the Fleur de Lis symbol in the center, this emblem is extremely rare(the standard Chevelle and Malibu’s emblem, however, consisted of the silver Chevrolet symbol surrounded by black with a red, white, and blue ring around the outer edge, and are very common), this same part was also available on 1967 Concours station wagons, GM part#3898242 or 3895 |
