Question Powerglide vs th350

I am keeping the 307ci that came stock in my 1972. The motor was mated to a powerglide. I am not sure if I should keep the powerglide or sell it and go for a turbo 350? From what I understand the swap is pretty easy.
I'm curious how the powerglide is for just a 307 cruiser/driver? I'm not going for hot rod. Most likely keeping it 2 barrel as well. I was told that the powerglide would make a great tranny for around town and accasional short highway trips. With a higher stall converter. Any experiences?

Ive never had a power glide so I cant offer much insight but with the 350 you would have an extra gear and possibly better mileage.

I'm not sure on the mileage difference. I am running a powerglide now and I love it, but I don't know if it would be worth it for you to even swap. If your planning on dropping the th350 then your best upgrade for street use would be an overdrive 700r4.

ditto on leaving the PG. They are great transmissions and it'll live forever behind your 307 as long as you aren't doing the neutral drop special. If you really wanted a big improvement it would be in the lines of the 700R4 with a corvette servo. A stall converter is only good if your engine is built to launch at a higher RPM. Keep in mind they create more heat inside a transmission also. In your case it sounds like a stock converter would work best. Another advantage to the 700R4 would be the low first gear and the OD obviously. It also depends on your rearend gear too. If you are running a 2.73 gear the overdrive wouldn't be of much use unless you are looking to set a land speed record but in that case the 1st gear would be awesome.

I was told the TH350 was better all around trans. Im thinking one more gear would help. The prices are very resonable for TH350 as well. Whats involved with changing to the TH350? Would I use the same cross member and drive shaft? What about shift linkage and carb kick down?

The "one more gear" is Low, not an overdrive. Your highway mileage would be the same with either transmission. Look at the cost of changing and decide if you want a lower ratio first gear. There were millions of 'glides sold, many behind a big block. Pretty good transmission.

Chevelles , at least 70-72, came with either a glide or a th350. I have a 350 in myine but I wonder if the powerglide just shows Drive and Low on the dash shift indicater?

Anyone ... feel free to answer.

Im leaning toward a th350. I can give the trans shop my PG and $500.00 and he gives me a rebuilt TH350 w/new converter and 3 year warranty.

This is correct, the dash only shows D, L with the Powerglide. Had a 71 with a glide.
