Guess it depends on what you are doing but either.

The long/short has nothing to do with the whether the motor will work in your application. This is merely a state of completion with a long block having heads already bolted on/included (plus a few other parts) whereas the short-block is just the block with the rotating assembly.

Do the short block if you are buying your heads separately or reusing what you may already have.

From the sound of it, you might be better off purchasing a motor complete from carb to oil pan. This can be done via a "crate" motor or buy looking up one of the many builders who could do this for you.

Not sure what all this has to do with the "Original block" for your car though....

Like Eric said, a short block has the rotating assembly, crank, rods, pistons. You have to add heads, intake, water pump, oil pan, etc. Long block usually includes everything except carb, distributor, valve covers, alt, power steering pump, exhaust manifolds, etc.

Tell us what you're trying to do, what needs replacing and maybe we can help.

Not sure on the turbo 350. It could mean a Turbo Fire 350 engine. Chevy called a lot of their engines 'Turbo Fires'. Could also mean a 350 turbo hydromatic trans. In that era Chevy had a 350 and 400 turbo hydromatic trans. The 350 trans would have been used on small block engines. Not sure any of that matters, you can bolt up a lot of different transmissions to a 350 V8.

Sorry thats my transmission trying to get back to original setup right now i have a 327 but i changed the oil last week and my oil filter was full of metal shavings. So it had a 350 and a three speed automatic originally. But I m going for a daily driver that can beat most of the Hondas in town like i have been doing

If I'm reading this correctly you can't turn your motor over because it is hitting something. Make sure you don't have a bolt hitting something around the fly wheel or starter area. You did not say if you are turning the motor over by hand or with the starter. Mine did the same thing and this is what I found was the problem

Water got into one of the cylinders and I had a ridge that the piston was hitting. Did you turn the motor over before you purchased it?
