Door adjustment

I am in the process of replacing the door latch, passenger side, in my 64 Malibu convert and want to align the door but have run into the following problem. I have loosened the six hex head bolts on the hinges but the door will not move at all. I am trying to raise the back of the door. Am I doing something wrong here ? I do not want to force the door and break the hinges.
Should I be trying to change the alignment using the philip head screws on the hinges instead. Thank you.
