Default Adjustable Clutch Rod installation ?

I am trying to figure out how to install the adjustable clutch rod according to the Service manual. On my 72 Chevelle, all parts from the clutch pedal to the clutch fork and a 621 bell housing are original GM parts. In the first pic, the adjustable rod is located on the opposite of the Z-bar according to the manual. If I put it on the correct side, it will not contact the clutch fork. I have check my parts against other's parts and nothing seem to damaged or bent. And the motor mounts and transmission mount are fairly new and solid.
If anyone has any thoughts, I would greatly appreciate it.
