It could have jumped time, but that is unlikely. Mike's advice will definitely rule that out. Otherwise, maybe the module in your distributor went bad, if it is an HEI, or maybe the cap has a little crack in it somewhere. It could be a lot of things.
To further Mike's advice about ruling out if it jumped time, pull the #1 plug, and rotate the engine around by hand until you feel the poof of air come out of plug hole. Then line up the mark on the damper with the timing tab. If the rotor bug is pointing at the # 1 wire, you're alright...and it is something else.


Have a spare cap and rotor? Maybe a spare coil?
