If your engine has a big cam, it may not produce enough vacuum for your brake booster.
I've never driven anything with a Hydroboost, but I've only heard good things about them... does your Astro Van have one on it? A lot of those came w/ a hydroboost. I have one sitting on the bench right now... I'll let you know how I like it in a few months.
