That is why you have been so successful in this job. You are not trying to be anyone else but Gary and you are not "brown nosing". I am sure that he was not the only eyes and ears in this decision. He asked the other employees how they liked you and I think that the feedback from your peers is actually more important than that of your boss, even though he has the final decision. So I am guessing that you are going to stick around in this job for a while.
