Hernia surgery question

I found out today that the discomfort and solid gut I've been feeling lately is a hernia. The doc said it is a ventral hernia and it runs from my belly button to just below my sternum. I may have to have surgery to fix it, but not until after the new year. Has anyone here had hernia surgery? Any input would be appreciated.

Never had it Mark, but just having a knife in that area gives me the willies. Seriously though, good luck
