I know a couple people that had ankle surgery, and they gave them a little scooter to use. You put you bad leg on the the scooter, and just push yourself around. It keeps weight off of your foot, but it keeps you standing upright. Maybe she could look into something like that?
Good luck. I hope she feels better soon. Of course you know YOU'LL have to the laundry lifting from now on!
