Avoid the cast iron Saginaw 4 speeds at all costs! They are made of glass and won't hold up to much. Get yourself a Muncie - M20 or M21. Or, a Super T10 out of a 70's Trans Am, Corvette, etc. Make sure you identify the gear ratios in the T10, some of them have stump puller 1st gear ratios - but are weak.

I am with Ray, I would use the 327 and dress it like a 350HP L79 327.
