Just about any decent Republican could have beat Obama, but the Republican Party nominated a guy who banned guns and socialized healthcare in his state as Governor, who then picked a running-mate that voted for TARP, the auto bailouts, extending unemployment, expanding medicare, both stimulus packages, and the bank bailouts...
Then they wondered why they couldn't get enough support to win an election?  Voter turnout was way down in most states.
