Don't know the stock limits, but a lot depends on how it was rebuilt. Lots of kits out there for them. Unless you go nitrous or forced induction, it should handle anything that a 383 will throw at it. Especially with a shift kit, good rebuild kit and good cooling.

If you don't know the history on the trans, I would definitely recommend a rebuild. Personally, unless it is factory/rebuilder new, I would go through it.
