Unreal... sorry to hear Ray. I found a 98% identical truck to mine, agreed on a price, etc. Called the next two days trying to set up a day and time with no response. I was slightly upset, had to start all over looking for another one. It is incredibly hard to find a decent RCSB, V8 truck around here.

Alot of talk on another site about the elcamino I was looking at after it ended up on ebay. I think I was being watch over. Not what the owner claimed it to be.
"A little update for all of you. So ebay wont let you go back and change anything written but will let you add stuff. So I added the final bit about the stamping. The auction ended and I made contact with the buyer and discussed the concern of the stamping and what I had since learned about the car. I cancelled the auction and he agreed so he was not out any funds and I was only out for my listing. In the mean time the following has happened: Jerry Macneish authenticated the car as a fake. We provided multiple pictures to him for his database. The oil was drained and a scope camera was used to see if 2 or 4 bolt. Couldn't tell (crappy camera) but through the oil port drilling size we determined it is 99% sure a 2 bolt main motor. So now... we have a demand letter headed to previous owner via our attorney, but after talking to previous owner on the phone it is apparent he wants to fight it, and he clearly knew it to be a fake. Hindsight is 20/20 but learned he substituted a different bill of sale at time we finished the deal (deposit given, then paid in full), he is far more knowledgeable of engine stampings than he originally lead on to, and claims he took photos of my friend and I looking at car so he could prove we saw the numbers. We have a reward ad on craigslist for info for previous owners as well as anyone willing to testify that he knew of the forgery. Up to $3,000. It also lets everyone know it is not a real numbers matching car. Included in the lawsuit will be the cost to pull motor and have block decked to remove stampings. We are dealing with a real gem of a seller, we really wanted to believe it was real, we couldn't understand why one would fake stamp it as L-89 and not advertise it as such once we went back and decoded motor. So a big shout out to everyone who essentially called me a dirt bag. In the end, now that it is proven a fake, I am the one with a forged car in my garage and the headache of making sure no one else gets duped.... "

And that is exactly why I don't like numbers cars and prefer clones. The element of people you deal with are not very savory. Both owners and sellers. It just so much easier to just say it is what it is and miss the petty bickering in court.
I like the cars and not having to be worried about who was drunk on the line and put a incorrect part on. And 50 years later some expert who literally knows nothing and is a expert is trying to sue you. It just cheaper and easier to own a clone. Can't sue you over them. Nobody trying to screw you. Don't got to watch your back. You like it and want it or you don't. Way it should be. Sorry to hear about it tho. Sux. |

It's baffling that people still think they can get away with this type of forgery. Remember the 65' Z16 clone that had a trim tag which appeared to have been done by a three year old?

Getting back on topic, narrowed the truck down today and this is what I'm going to get. 2015 Ford F150,XLT, V6 2.7 EcoBoost truck. Looks like I have to order it, they can't keep them in stock. 24 Mpg highway
