Around the opening is all you 'have to cut'. I slit mine down the center from the front of the console all the way to the rear of the carpet. This allowed me to pull it in tighter around the trans hump, since the slit is under the console it's not visible. The preformed trans hump in the carpet was too big/wide and wouldn't lay flat against the metal until I slit it.
