Default indentify 10 bolt rear diff

hi, can any one help me tell me what diff i have here? the car is a 1969 chevelle, came out with a 307. its a 10 bolt and seems to be an open wheeler. i cant find anything on the net that resembles the rear cover? apparently can be a 8.2 or a 8.5"? then again might not be the original diff?? any thoughts.

Get the casting number off it and google that.

Really? I googled images for "gm 8.2 10 bolt", and got several pictures that resembled the rear cover in you photo. If it is original to the car, I'll bet it is a 2.73 non-posi. You can clean the axle tube and get more information. Chevellestuff.net has decoding information.

It's definitely an 8.2 Chevy 10-bolt

If the car had a Powerglide, it is probably 3.08 gears, and if it had a TH350, it's probably 2.73 or 2.56.
