Default MUncie 4 speed stick

I have a 1970 chevelle that was originally a 4 speed bench seat 454 SS
It now has buckets in it and I want to replace the muncie 4 speed shifter to a console stick. My question is can I replace just the stick from the top of the car without having to mess with any of linkage? I am also wanting to add a console so this is my reasoning. Thanks for the advise.

The hump for a non console car and a console car are different to start with. The console hump is not as wide because of the console. Most guys dumped the muncie shifters for the Hurst competition plus shifter. I have one in my Chevelle.
